Dear Friends and Valued Customers,

I have some bittersweet news to share: Friday, June 28th, will be the final day for Dan Neal's Auto Repair. After more than 40 wonderful years as an auto repair mechanic and 23 years running my own business, I'm excited to announce that I’ll be retiring at 65!

I can’t thank you enough for the trust and support you’ve shown me over the years. It has truly been a joy serving so many of you, and I’ve cherished the friendships that have developed along the way. I will genuinely miss seeing all of your familiar faces come through the door!

Just a quick note: any warranties on parts will still be honored through the vendors where they were purchased. You can check the names on your invoices, and most repair shops will be happy to help you with that.

Until June 28th, Dan Neal's Auto Repair will be here for you just as always for your repair needs or just to say hi!

I’ll also keep my page open for a bit longer for anyone who might have questions or just wants to say hi. Even though I’m moving on to new adventures, I’m still just a message away!

Thank you all for everything!

Warm regards,
Dan Neal

**PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT**

The ‘Check Engine’ light is an important feature in your vehicle that deserves your attention. This light signals potential issues detected by your vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system. When it illuminates, it indicates that various systems—such as ignition, fuel injection, or emission control—may not be performing optimally. Even if your vehicle feels like it's running smoothly, it’s beneficial to investigate further.

The Car Care Council advises that while a glowing ‘Check Engine’ light doesn’t require you to pull over immediately, it’s a good practice to have your vehicle checked out as soon as possible. Addressing this warning promptly can help you avoid serious engine damage and prevent higher repair costs down the road.

If the light comes on, start by checking the gas cap. A loose gas cap can often trigger the warning light. If you find that the cap was loose, you can typically expect the light to turn off after a few short drives.

On the other hand, if the ‘Check Engine’ light is flashing or blinking, it’s crucial to have your vehicle examined right away. Taking prompt action can keep your vehicle running smoothly and ensure your safety.

Investing in preventative maintenance is key to keeping your car in peak condition and steering clear of unexpected repair costs. By adhering to the manufacturer’s recommended schedules for maintenance and lubrication, you proactively safeguard your vehicle's performance and longevity. Moreover, replacing components that are prone to wear before they fail not only enhances reliability but also paves the way for a lasting relationship with your car. Embrace these practices, and enjoy the journey ahead!

1. Ensure your vehicle’s brakes are inspected at least once a year to identify any necessary repairs. Brake pads and rotors typically last between 35,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on your driving habits.

2. Driving with bad headlights can be very dangerous. Restoring your headlights can have it looking like new and can shine up to 3.4x lighter when driving. You can slow oxidation caused by heat, sunlight, pollution, and harsh chemicals by parking in a garage when possible.

3. A car battery usually lasts 4 to 5 years, influenced by factors like temperature and usage. To prolong its life, keep it clean, avoid extended periods of inactivity, and remember to turn off lights when not in use.

As an experienced car mechanic and shop owner, I often come across common issues that drivers face with their vehicles. Being aware of these issues can help you save money on repairs and keep your car running smoothly. While I am always happy to answer any questions you may have about your vehicle, I am hesitant to provide diagnoses over the phone. Although I don't mind providing quotes based on another mechanic's diagnosis, it's worth noting that vehicle repairs can be complex and without seeing the vehicle myself, I can't guarantee another diagnosis. However, many times, bringing your vehicle in for a proper diagnosis has resulted in saving customers money. At my shop, diagnosis is always free when we perform the repair for you.

Common Issues

1. Check engine and warning lights –

Warning lights appear when one of the sensors detect an error and highlights it to the engine control unit. Although it could signal a minor issue such as a loose gas cap, it could also be a major problem. There are around 200 warning codes so you will need to take this to a professional who can then check the system, find out the source of the warning and carry out the necessary repairs

2. Squeaking or grinding brakes –

Your car's brakes can wear out over time. If you notice any unusual noises or a soft pedal, have a mechanic check it out. Squeaking or squealing brakes may have minor issues, but grinding means they need to be replaced. To stay safe, take care of brake issues promptly. Make sure your brakes are always in good condition to stop safely.

3. The Transmission Filters are Clogged –

Maintaining your car's transmission system is crucial to ensure its longevity and performance. Over time, transmission fluid collects particles that can clog the filter, leading to major issues. However, it's important to note that the transmission system is a closed one. So, if you're experiencing frequent clogging and blockages, it could be a sign of serious problems that might be beyond repair. Don't wait until it's too late

I will continue to list common issues on her frequently.
