Behind the Scenes at the Shop 🔧

Here’s Joe hard at work welding a yoke to the tube on a driveshaft. This precision process is critical to ensuring the driveshaft is strong, properly aligned, and built to handle the power and torque it’s designed for.

Every weld matters when it comes to keeping your vehicle running smoothly and reliably down the road. We’re proud of the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into every driveline repair and build.

Great work, Joe! 👏🚗💨

🔧 BEHIND THE SCENES AT JB AUTOMOTIVE 🔧

Not every repair is a simple parts swap! Here, Bill is turning down the commutator on a starter armature.

Over time, the commutator surface can become worn, grooved, or uneven. By carefully machining it smooth again, the starter brushes can make proper contact and ride smoothly across the surface. This helps ensure reliable electrical contact, better starter performance, and can extend the life of the component.

It’s precision work like this that keeps quality repairs rolling out the door every day. Nice work, Bill! 👏

As part of National Automotive Workers Appreciation Week, we wanted to give you a little behind-the-scenes look at what goes on here at JB Automotive!

Here we have Joe from MCD using the Blanchard grinder — a machine used to grind and smooth large metal surfaces quickly and evenly. It’s an important part of the process that helps ensure parts are perfectly flat and ready to perform at their best.

A lot of precision, skill, and hard work goes into keeping vehicles on the road, and we’re proud to showcase some of the people and equipment that help make it happen! 👏

🐾🔧 With it being National Automotive Workers Week… we can’t forget two very important members of the crew! 😎

Meet our unofficial shop supervisors:
🐶 Watson, The Shop Dog — head of customer greetings, snack inspections, and morale boosting.
🐱 Lenny, The Shop Cat — expert nap tester, toolbox inspector, and professional mouse patrol.

They may not turn wrenches, but they definitely keep the shop running smoother with plenty of tail wags, purrs, and comic relief. ❤️

Be sure to give them some extra love when you stop by this week! 🐾🚗

🔧 MEET THE OWNER 🔧

Meet John — owner of JB Automotive!

John officially opened JB Automotive 25 years ago, but his passion for the automotive industry started long before that. For 10 years prior, he worked on vehicles on the side out of a small two-car garage at his home before turning his dream into a full-time business.

When asked what inspired him to open his own shop, John said he wanted to help people and provide the community with an honest, trustworthy automotive shop. At the same time, his son was becoming a teenager, and owning his own business gave him the opportunity to spend more time with family.

His favorite part of owning JB Automotive? Helping people in the community — and anyone who knows John knows that’s exactly what he does every day.

We asked John about the most rewarding project he’s ever worked on, and his answer was an NHRA Pro Mod drag racer… and if you know the story behind that one, you KNOW. 😎🏁

For anyone wanting to become an automotive technician, John’s advice is:
“Stay humble, always be honest, have integrity, and never stop learning.”

When asked what sets JB Automotive apart from other shops, John said it’s the shared values between him, Kaylie, and their team — treating customers with honesty, respect, and giving them the best care possible.

And of course, we had to ask the age-old question:
Ford, Dodge, or Chevy?
Anyone who knows John already knows the answer to that one. 🤣

Outside of work, John used to spend much of his time drag racing, but these days he enjoys finding and restoring vintage stereo equipment.

John and Kaylie have built more than just an automotive shop — they’ve built a business centered around family, community, and taking care of both their customers and employees. We’re proud to have leaders like them at JB Automotive!

Service writers… they just answer the phones, right? WRONG! 😆

Meet Kaylie — not only is she our service writer here at JB Automotive, she’s also co-owner alongside John… but let’s be honest, she’s the one who keeps this place running! 😉

Kaylie has been part of JB Automotive for the past 14 years, and trust us, she has some stories. From customers trying to imitate the noises their vehicles make 😂 to keeping the shop moving every single day, there’s never a dull moment.

We asked her what the most common thing customers wait too long to do, and her answer was easy: oil changes! Regular maintenance really does matter.

If she could drive any vehicle? A newer Mercedes. 🚗✨

And when we asked what every driver should always keep in their vehicle, she said:
✔️ An emergency kit
✔️ A AAA membership

Outside of the shop, Kaylie stays just as busy. She’s a self-taught novice seamstress (which we think is pretty impressive!), and she also loves gardening, boating, and fishing. But her favorite thing of all is cooking for others out of her Nana’s motorhome and hosting camping get-togethers for friends.

She truly does it all — both inside and outside the shop — and we couldn’t appreciate everything she does more. JB Automotive wouldn’t be the same without her!

Did you know there’s another business operating inside the walls of JB Automotive?
Meet Starter Alternator Specialists!

Bill is our resident starter and alternator expert, and he’s the guy who keeps those important components working like they should. With years of experience under his belt, he’s seen just about everything.

When we asked Bill what commonly causes starters to fail, his answer was:
✔️ Rust
✔️ Bad solenoids
✔️ Worn coils

Luckily, those are all things we can help with right here at the shop!

We also asked him about the most memorable starter he’s worked on, and his answer was a 1946 Jubilee tractor. 🚜 He also mentioned that what seems like a “simple rebuild” can sometimes turn into a complete nightmare 😆

When Bill’s not hard at work in the shop, you’ll probably find him fly fishing, drag racing, or working in the garden.

We sure appreciate all of Bill’s hard work and the knowledge he brings to the shop every day!

Some of you may not know this, but inside the walls of JB Automotive we’re also home to a couple other businesses — one of them being Montana Clutch & Drivelines!
(formerly Clutchmasters)

In our next edition of “Meet the Techs,” we’d like you to meet Joe!

Joe has 10 years of experience working on clutches and driveshafts of all shapes and sizes. His knowledge and attention to detail have made him a huge asset to the team at Montana Clutch & Drivelines.

We asked Joe what type of noise vehicle owners should never ignore, and his answer was simple:
⚠️ Grinding noises.

When asked what the biggest sign of a clutch going bad is, he said:
“The smell.” 😆

According to Joe, some of the toughest drivelines to repair are on Toyotas, but one of the most satisfying parts of his work is restoring old vehicles and parts from the 1940s and 1950s. There’s just something special about bringing old classics back to life. 🚘

Outside of work, Joe enjoys fishing and RC cars.

Joe has been with Montana Clutch & Drivelines for the past 2 years, bringing plenty of expertise and experience with him, and we truly appreciate everything he does for the shop! 👏
