Healthy growth = strong business
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve told you a lot about WHY I started Deep Roots and who I want to serve…
But I haven’t told you why I chose the name Deep Roots…
And this part of the story matters. Especially now.
If you couldn’t tell… Deep Roots is a nod to CM Tree Service. 🌳
But let me enlighten you as to WHY…
CM is where I was given the opportunity to take my natural, God-given skill set… and actually DO something with it.
I had tried before in other organizations, and it was always stifled.
I was told to “stay in my lane” and “don’t overstep.”
But not at CM.
At CM, I learned a completely new industry.
I was taught business, profit margins and how to bid jobs.
I screwed up.
I was given grace and allowed to try again.
I was given the responsibility to build systems, help build a team… and I earned the privilege of sitting at the table.
It’s where I experienced the pain of what happens when a business grows faster than its systems… and the kind of chaos that can emerge when communication breaks down.
But more importantly…
It’s where someone trusted me enough to let me change things.
Things that didn’t belong to me.
Mike gave me an incredible amount of freedom and responsibility within the company HE built.
He listened when I said, “There has to be a better way to do this…”
And we’ve both learned how to pause and say, “Can I be honest?”… and share our reservations when we see things differently.
Over the last five years, we’ve learned a LOT.
Deep Roots doesn’t exist because I wanted something different from CM.
It exists BECAUSE of what CM taught me.
And just to make this really clear…
I’m not leaving CM.
I’m still very much part of the company and incredibly proud of what we’re continuing to build.
Deep Roots simply gives me the opportunity to take what I’ve learned and help more businesses do the same.
The name represents what I believe about business.
You can grow fast.
You can make a profit.
You can hire a bunch of people…
But if the foundation underneath all of it isn’t strong…
Eventually, something WILL give.
I want to help owners build the roots that support their people and their business for years to come.
Because that’s what deep roots do.
They create strength and stability for everything growing above them.
And that’s what I want to help build.
