Driving Forward ADAS Repair & Readiness Summit – Recap

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Driving Forward ADAS Repair and Readiness Summit, hosted by ADAS Solutions USA, Inc. at their Loveland location. The event brought together industry experts, technicians, and solution providers to focus on one common goal: ensuring we're ready for the rapidly growing demands of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration and repair.

A key theme throughout the summit was clear: the vehicles coming into our shops today are increasingly equipped with complex ADAS technologies, and the need for qualified technicians and OEM-compliant calibration services is only going to grow. As one speaker reminded us, “there’s plenty of sand in the sandbox.” The opportunities are there—but only for those prepared with the right tools, training, and standards.

ADAS Calibrations Must Meet OEM Standards
Whether done in-house or sublet, your ADAS calibrations must align with manufacturer requirements. That includes having the right access, tools, and technician training in place.

Insurance Pricing & Industry Evolution
While current ADAS reimbursement and pricing models may be frustrating, they were compared to past shifts in PDR and glass work pricing. As with those areas, adaptation is key. The industry will continue to evolve, and staying ahead means being proactive.

Radar-Compliant Paint & the Collision Industry
Craig Fredericks from PPG discussed how radar-compliant paint—especially with metallic finishes like silver (on nearly 29% of cars)—can affect blind-spot detection and ADAS functionality. His reminder: “It’s just a bumper job”… but it’s no longer that simple.

Training & the Future of I-CAR Gold Class
Justin Bettendorf with I-CAR emphasized the growing importance of ADAS training. An upcoming requirement for Gold Class status will include a dedicated ADAS technician role. He also shared strategies that I’d love to discuss with you one-on-one, as they may help you meet the coming standards more easily.

MCRA will be in Helena this weekend. We have a scheduled calibration for an out-of-town customer on Saturday morning, so we will only be attending the Friday Open House.
