This is an electronic parking brake actuator. It bolts to the rear caliper on vehicles that have push button parking brakes. Most manufacturers require the use of a scan tool to put the parking brake system in maintenance mode before pressing in the piston. I had a customer that had an issue with an intermittent extended crank today. This means the engine turns over longer than normal before starting. A few quick checks found a dirty air filter and a dirty throttle body. These two items can contribute to an extended crank condition and are normal maintenance items. Is this light on in your car? It’s the tire pressure monitoring system warning light. When it’s on steady, it generally indicates that there is an issue with the system, like a sensor problem. A gentleman brought his Equinox in today with a noise complaint while braking. The rotors didn’t appear too bad looking from the outside. After removing the pads and calipers, the problem became apparent. The rust has built up and then turned to scale, which can flake off in large pieces, comprising the braking surface. A new set of pads and rotors and the noise was gone. If you have an issue that you aren’t sure of and want an opinion, call or text 724-740-8009
