It’s now time for all of the concerned Pilots, whether you are a Lead, Steer, Chase or Hi-Pole to take a stand on the fact that favoritism is showing it’s head In This industry. Lately My company had to be certified with a particular company to haul their product, we got the certification, and committed to 5 runs. We did 3 of them, then when we were supposed to run the 4th, I contacted the lead driver to confirm the time he would be rolling out the gate the next day, he hem hawed around then informed me that the lead steer put together the group and that neither of my vehicles were on it. Now had I just went ahead and drove to the site, and then had been told that, I would have been a whole lot more upset than I already am.
Now the company is not aware of this action, and the lead steer when he was confronted, stated I made a mistake, his mistake cost my company and drivers money! That we would have been making.
We as Pilots have to take and remember that mistakes as they are so called, hurt people and businesses, we are supposed to know what we are doing, and that means if you have had one particular company running with you, that before you just blatantly replace.them, you check to see if there is a reason to replace them.
None of us are perfect, including me, I’d never claim to be, but we should be responsible for our actions. Should the replacement that was hired be replaced! Or should the lead steer be held responsible for his actions. This is a question that really needs to be considered, when a mistake is made who pays for it?
Being responsible for your actions is the proper thing to do, in this business, when you pull a stunt like this you cost someone hundreds, if not thousands of dollars depending on the load and the length of the haul. Input on this is appreciated, and this is not a rant, this is a statement for Pilots of all areas to consider, as to how your actions can hurt others, we need to help other Pilots of all veins, not hurt them.
