Hey everyone, here is an update on the NWTI 1987 4Runner project!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on this project. I’ve been basically daily driving it to work since I got it.
I bought it around May and I’ve so far rebuilt the entire IFS front end… first time in my history that I haven’t s**t canned the IFS for a solid axle…that may still happen👀

I regeared it to 4.56 ratio which has been perfect for a daily driver with 33”
Tires. While re gearing the rear I found both axle bearings were destroyed, brake hardware laying in the bottom of the drums, leaking wheel cylinders etc. the stuff you expect from a rig with 300k on the odometer🤷🏻.

I also found an exhaust lobe on the cam wiped out when I attempted to adjust the valves… something I haven’t seen on a 22re…ever.
So I adjusted the lash and threw the valve cover back on…🤷🏻😬.

Last Thursday I dropped it off to begin the 3.4/R150 swap. I would have like to do it myself but I struggle to find the time for projects this size these days.

So I took it to a trusted local for the job.
On the way to drop off I noticed my brakes felt funny.. I check and the master cylinder reservoir is almost empty. I take a peek at the back of the tires and I notice the front passenger caliper is leaking…oh well! I have all the stuff for the brake upgrade after the motor swap.
I filled the reservoir up and kept cruising. Next I noticed steam coming over the hood 2 miles from my destination!! A hose under the intake manifold let go and sprayed everything…dirty little bastard.
I got rope towed the rest of the way and it’s now getting torn apart.

It’s almost like the 4runner knew it was headed for a new motor and could finally let itself die🤔.

I really enjoyed driving the truck with the 22re but I’m looking forward to the 3.4 upgrade. I’ve had this same combo once before and it was a blast to drive! I also have a super charger on my
Shelf in case I need a bit more zoot!

This vehicle will get outfitted with all the available NWTI armor as soon as it’s in good running order.

This is a DIY weld-together kit — CNC-cut parts, designed to fit together, and ready to assemble.

The kit includes a CNC-cut and skeletonized 1/4" inner winch structure, 3/16" and 10ga outer structure, high-lift jack points, and 3/4" shackle mounts. Assembly instructions are included, and the kit is 100% made in the USA. The bumper weighs about 78 lbs. without tubing.
