We recently had this 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Final Edition come through ELEVATE, and this one was a lot of fun to work on.

The goal was simple: bring the life back to the vehicle and get it looking its best before it was put up for sale.

For this Beetle, we performed our Level 1 β€” Premier Detailing.

No paint correction. No polishing. Just a thorough, professional detail focused on getting the vehicle clean, refreshed, and looking its best.

And sometimes, that's exactly what a vehicle needs.

This Final Edition has a unique look all its own, and after a proper Level 1 Detail, it was ready to head toward its next owner looking clean, cared for, and ready to go. πŸ”₯

At ELEVATE, every vehicle doesn't need the most aggressive service.

Sometimes it just needs the right service.

This Tahoe came through ELEVATE to get scrubbed down and cleared out, inside and out.

Dust, miles, and everyday wear wiped away to bring this setup back to where it belongs.

HOW TO PROPERLY CARE FOR BLACK PAINT DURING A BATESVILLE SUMMER

If you own a black vehicle in Arkansas, you already know the struggle.
When it's clean and the sun hits it just right, black paint can look absolutely incredible.
But it also has a way of showing everything.
Dust. Water spots. Pollen. Fingerprints. Swirl marks. Bird droppings. Road grime.
And then there's the summer heat.
So let's talk about something that I think gets overlooked:

How you actually care for black paint during the summer.
And before we get into it, let me say this:
You don't need a cabinet full of expensive products to take care of your vehicle.

You need the right types of products, the right process, and a little patience.

FIRST: SHADE IS YOUR FRIEND

If you have the option to wash your vehicle in the shade, take it.
Working on hot paint in direct Arkansas summer sunlight makes everything more difficult.
Water and chemicals dry faster.
Soap can dry on the surface.
Minerals left behind in water can become water spots.
And when you're trying to work quickly because the panel is getting hot, it's much easier to make mistakes.
Ideally, your vehicle and the surface you're working on should be reasonably cool.
That doesn't mean you need a climate-controlled detailing studio.
A canopy, garage, or good shaded area can make a huge difference.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE TO WORK IN THE SUN?

Sometimes you don't have a choice.
Maybe you're at home and the only place available is the driveway.
Maybe you're traveling.
Maybe you're washing at someone else's house.
If you absolutely have to work in the sun, change the way you work.
Don't try to wash the entire vehicle and then come back to dry it.
Work in smaller sections.
Keep the surface wet.
Don't allow your soap or rinse water to dry on the vehicle.
And pay attention to how quickly everything is evaporating.
If you're fighting the sun the entire time, you're making the job harder than it needs to be.

KEEP YOUR WASH PROCESS SIMPLE

For routine maintenance, I'd rather see someone use a good process with basic products than a complicated process with a bunch of unnecessary products.

For standard washing, you're looking for things like:

β€’ A quality pH-balanced car shampoo
β€’ A proper wash mitt or wash media
β€’ Separate wheel and paint tools
β€’ Quality microfiber drying towels
β€’ A clean water source
β€’ Good technique

The goal isn't to scrub the paint until it's clean.
The goal is to safely remove the dirt without adding unnecessary scratches.
That's especially important on black vehicles because black paint tends to make those imperfections very obvious.

AND THEN THERE'S SPRAY PROTECTION

This is where I think a lot of everyday vehicle owners can find a really good middle ground.
You don't necessarily need to jump straight from "nothing" to a professional ceramic coating.
There are several types of spray protection products that can make sense for routine maintenance.

Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, you might look at:

β€’ Spray waxes
β€’ Synthetic spray sealants
β€’ SiOβ‚‚/ceramic-infused spray protectants
β€’ Drying aids with protection

These can provide additional protection, improve water behavior, add gloss, and make future cleaning easier.

But remember:

Spray protection is maintenance β€” not magic.
It's not going to repair scratched paint.
It's not going to permanently protect your vehicle.
And it's not going to replace proper washing.
Think of it as another layer in your maintenance routine.

BLACK PAINT DOESN'T NEED TO BE COMPLICATED

One of the biggest things I want people to understand is that taking care of black paint isn't necessarily about buying more stuff.
It's about doing the simple things correctly.
Wash it regularly.
Don't let contamination sit on the paint unnecessarily.
Avoid washing a hot vehicle in direct sunlight whenever possible.
Use proper wash media.
Use clean towels.
Don't drag dirt across the paint.
Don't let chemicals dry on the surface.
And keep some form of protection on the paint if that's important to you.

ONE MORE THING...

If you have bird droppings, bug remains, tree sap, or other contaminants sitting on black paint during the summer heat:

Don't wait days to deal with them if you can avoid it.
Heat can make those contaminants much more difficult to remove and can increase the chance of staining or etching.
The sooner you can safely remove them, the better.

THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY

If I could give someone with a black vehicle in Batesville one piece of advice this summer, it would be this:

Don't fight the environment. Work with it.
Find the shade.
Keep the surface cool when possible.
Use the right products for the job.
Slow down.
And focus on your process instead of chasing the latest product.
You don't need a $100 bottle of something sitting on your shelf to take good care of your car.
You need to understand what you're doing and why you're doing it.

That's what we're going to keep talking about here at Behind the Canopy with Rocky.

If you've got a question about caring for your vehicle, drop it in the comments.
It might just become our next question.

Real work. Real knowledge. No shortcuts.
