After 1000's of brake jobs, we know what works and just as important, what doesn't. Our parts selection is only part of the equation. We use proven parts from different suppliers to suit each customer's needs. The most expensive brake parts are not the best! Drilled and slotted rotors? Only if they were equipped originally from the manufacturer will we use them. "Racing brakes" offer no advantage over standard brakes, and actually have some drawbacks when used on everyday drivers.

Brake public enemy #1 in our area by far is the winter de-icing compounds. They cause all sorts of brakes problems, and to mitigate their effects, our brake preparation techniques are second to none! Great care is taken performing the preparation process. The center piece is our Rust Buster blast cabinet. It is specifically designed for brake caliper brackets and makes quick work of the rust. 4 different lubricants are used during our brake jobs. Each one has a purpose, and it's taken years of analysis to come up with a routine that works best!

Finally, a new addition to make cleaning rims and hubs easier and quicker are these wheel and hub buffers. Anytime a wheel comes off, for what ever reason, the brake rotor/hub and mating wheel surface has to be free from corrosion! Since day one, this arduous task has gotten done, but these new scrubbers make the task much easier and faster.

Code Red, all hands on deck! Several times per year, we get someone passing through town with car trouble. The latest one was a particularly bad situation. A mother and her son had to make an emergency trip from Massachusetts to Michigan to say goodbye to a daughter and sister, who was stricken with a illness. On the way home, their 2014 Nissan Rogue just couldn't make it any farther (just what they didn't need).

In order to take in a vehicle that needed 5 or so hours to diagnose and repair when we already had an overfull schedule, the entire team has to step it up. Vehicles have to be moved around and everyone has to kick it into passing gear to make it happen. They did! There was no way to complete the task in 1 afternoon, so we assisted it getting the out of town guests to a hotel. We thought we could finish the job by check-out time, and we were close. They were so grateful that someone would drop everything to help.

Being stranded on the road is no fun, especially after hearing what these folks just went through. We were glad to help!

Here's another tag team by brothers Ryan and Cliff. This high mileage service Transit van had a binding and chattering in turns from the rear differential. A complete service with OEM Motorcraft fluid and Motorcraft friction modifier at the last visit did NOT do the trick. So Ryan did the heavy lifting with an assist From Cliff and together they changed the clutch packs in the rear differential carrier. Wrestling those clutches out of there and then back in with new ones is no joke! Even Dennis joined in the fun, and the job was a complete success. Good job, guys!

Here we go again! One of our client's had an unfortunate tire blow-out on his beautiful 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The pieces of the tire damaged a wiring harness in the right rear of the vehicle. Wires shorted together and the dashboard had many warning lights on.

This was a team effort. Cliff expertly and carefully fixed the damaged wiring harness, saving an untold amount of time and money in harness replacement. However, the electrical damage was done. Vinny took over and determined that the chassis control module did not survive. It was not communicating and needed replacement and programming, which we did. Once that was back online, codes for 2 ride height sensors were now showing up. Erroneous scan tool data was confirmed by pinpoint testing of the sensors. To complicate things even more, this is a mild hybrid electric vehicle, with a 48v system used to power certain high-voltage items, like the front and rear Electric Anti Roll Bars.

I think there are 35 computers on board, and there were 45 codes across many of them that we had to systemically extinguish. It took over 2 weeks but we got it. The special software needed to complete job needed approval from the UK.

A big shout out to Sheldon Smith from Diagnostics and Programming for the assist. He was called in for the complicated programming, which even he said was tough.

We are very fortunate to have so many helpful dealer parts departments. One Chevy dealer in particular has a parts manager that after he was made, they broke the mold. Al goes out of his way to provide service that's second to none. When Al called for a favor, we were eager to try to help. Their service department stepped in it, like we all do from time to time. They were trying to add key fobs to a 2008 Corvette, and somehow managed to anger the security system so badly that their GM Technical Assistance Center and their multi-dealership mobile diagnostics and programming guy couldn't get it unlocked. To add to the fun, the Corvette had a lot of aftermarket performance parts and a "tune" installed.

Under normal circumstances, we wouldn't have gotten involved because of the so many variables with an older, tuned vehicle with so many discontinued parts. But this was no normal circumstance, and we have Vinny!

And yep, he rolled up his sleeves and dug in, and he was successful!

Like most dads with a 6-year old son, having him hold the flashlight while you try to do something can be a downright frustrating event..

Fast forward 25 years, and your son is working on an intermittent overheating issue on a '22 Ford Maverick hybrid. This truck uses a computer to control an electric water pump for the engine as well as for a second water pump for the hybrid cooling (good times). He had it narrowed down to a faulty water pump ground connection on the body, but the gremlin returned.

Rerunning his diagnostic testing, and the same situation arose. He was load testing the circuit to be sure it was capable of carrying a load (amps vs volts), and sure enough, depending on the point of contact on the wiring eyelet on the body the circuit was either carrying a load or not carrying a load. He unhooked the wiring harness plastic tab to get a better look at the eyelet and voila', the ground wire was off in his hand! Is was partially rotted and moving it around was enough to allow enough current to pass. Sometimes.

I would have never believed this situation if I wasn't standing right there watching it unfold, while holding the flashlight..

The future is now. Sometimes it's easier to see noises than it is to hear them. A pesky chassis noise in this F350 got the "EKG" treatment - specially made sensors that detect vibrations that we can scope and visually see takes the guess work out of it. Cliff Reistrom is mastering this technique. Make no mistake, noises can be a very formidable opponent!
