More fun in the shop: The 2017-2019 Silverado/Sierra 2500/3500HD 6.6L Duramax/Allision 6-speed 1000 is a beast of a powertrain. However, everything has it's limits, and a 2019 Silverado 2500HD found it's limit when it stopped moving forward. A fatigued and failed gear in the transfer case from pulling a lot of tree cutting equipment and trees over the years was the problem, and a replacement transfer case got things going in the right direction again.

Here's an interesting and unfortunate situation on a 2021 Cadillac XT5. Water leaks on vehicles with sunroofs can be frustrating to find and fix, especially when it's not caused by plugged drains. In this case, the rear drains were partially plugged, but rather than causing the telltale visual cues of water leaking in the interior of the vehicle there was a complaint that the sunroof shade would not close. Just enough water leaked with bullseye precision onto/into both the power sunshade and power panoramic roof modules (electric motors with integrated computers that communicate on the LIN bus), ruining both modules.

Vinny's detective work, replacing the modules, and cleaning out the drains got this Cadillac back in action.

Here's a new one: 2021 Silverado with the complaint of intermittent no start (handy for both the owner and us) and a "remote learn pending, please wait" message in the instrument cluster. Apparently many late-model GM vehicles have a function where a replacement or additional key fob can be added w/o the use of a scan tool and the procedure is outlined in the owner's manual. It involves cycling the driver's door lock cylinder using the metal key blade a certain amount of times withing 10 seconds, and other things to enter into and complete a fob learning procedure. The driver's door lock cylinder is linked to the door latch via a metal rod, like it has been for a 100 years or so, but they couldn't leave well enough alone. The latch has, among other things, 2 micro switches that input signals to both the driver's power window switch (basically a computer w/ switches) and a body control module (yet another computer). Everybody shares info with each other, even when that info is being falsely reported by a malfunctioning non-serviceable 25-cent microswitch inside of the driver's door latch..

So yes, a silly driver's door latch microswitch caused an intermittent major headache for all involved, including the flatbed driver.

We're not sure what's going on out there. A 2018 Jeep Wrangler came to us with an internal engine noise. It was making the rounds. The first shop said that they "don't do that type of work anymore". The second shop (a dealer) said yep, internal engine noise, and the customer was quoted a 5-figure+ price on a used engine job with almost as many miles on it as the original one. Yikes!

For some reason, on the Dodge/Chysler/Jeep 3.6L high-lift cam engines that rolled-out around 2016, out of the 4 camshafts that this engine has, the intake camshaft on the passenger side is known for prematurely wearing out cam lobes. Chrysler makes a nice kit to just replace the one cam and components that go bad. We've done plenty of them, and we keep a kit in stock and ready to go. Cliff is the master at these, and sure enough, that's what we found and that's what we fixed:

Here's Vinny doing what Vinny does - an F550 diesel was towed in with a no start condition. Although it was "just" 1 rotted high speed can bus wire under the driver's door sill plate shutting the entire vehicle down, years of experience led him to the root cause. Knowing systems gets to the solution as quickly as possible, and that is not an easy task. So many shops only choose to pick the low hanging fruit. Sometimes I think they are onto something..
