Your engine can look like this inside—and you’d never know it by looking under the hood.
This is carbon buildup on the intake valves of a direct-injection engine.
Over time, deposits can build up and restrict the airflow the engine needs. Depending on how severe it gets, you may notice things like a rough idle, hesitation, loss of performance, or even a check-engine light.
The pictures show the difference before and after cleaning.
The important part: carbon buildup isn't something we recommend guessing about. Symptoms can have several causes, so proper diagnosis comes first.

California just approved new efficiency standards for replacement tires — but there’s no need to rush out and replace the tires you have.

The first phase doesn’t begin until 2029.

For now, the basics still matter most: the right tire for your vehicle, proper tire pressure, good tread, and choosing a quality tire that fits how you drive.

We’ll keep an eye on the new rules and help explain what they actually mean for California drivers as they roll out.
