** UPDATE

Interstate 15 northbound at Harvard Road remains closed.

Southbound lanes are open.

Emergency personnel and hazardous materials specialists are on scene monitoring and assessing the hazardous materials. Attempts have been made to move the container, but the efforts have been unsuccessful. The crews have been working tirelessly to stabilize the materials and ensure safe passage for all traveling. I-15 northbound remains closed for an unknown duration.

UPDATE**

The closure on northbound I-15 at Harvard Road remains.

This is a very fluid situation. The lithium-ion batteries are still on fire and attempts to move the container holding them away from the freeway was unsuccessful. The air quality is being monitored within the hazardous zone. Testing is being done on the air quality, and if it comes back within an acceptable range, one lane of northbound I-15 could be opened. It could immediately close depending on the fire and the toxic fume levels.

If you are using I-40 for travel, traffic is heavily congested, and you can expect additional major delays. Any non-essential travel is not recommended.

**CLOSURE UPDATE

The southbound lanes of Interstate 15 are open.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 15 will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time. The closure has moved further south from Afton Road to Field Road.

Traffic crash/emergency incident on I-15 northbound at mile post marker 15 SBD 113.00 (north of Afton Road, south of Baker, CA). All lanes are blocked. All northbound traffic will be re-directed south at Afton Road. Expect major delays. Unknown time of opening.

All lanes of I-15 southbound at Basin Road will be blocked for this incident. All southbound traffic will be re-directed north at Basin Road. Expect major delays. Unknown time of opening.

As a reminder, it is NOT ADVISED to utilize dirt roads that parallel the freeway. Vehicles often get stuck when re-directed by digital maps.
