HEADS UP‼️ A huge night Saturday for the annual Fall bird migration. The biggest concentration will be from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes where a cold front is driving cooler Canadian air southward.

Recent nights have had nearly 500,000,000 birds on the move!

Hotspots will include Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio!

Interesting Migration info - prepare for take off!

If you thought the sky felt a little empty today, you’re not wrong. 🦉✨ Tonight is shaping up to be a massive departure night for millions of our feathered neighbors in Minnesota and Wisconsin!

According to the latest BirdCast radar model, a huge wave of migratory birds—including warblers, orioles, grosbeaks, thrushes, and waterfowl—is taking off about 3 hours after sunset to catch nocturnal air currents and head south for the winter.

What is BirdCast? 📡
It’s a high-tech forecast generated using machine learning trained on NEXRAD weather surveillance radar and atmospheric data. Since birds show up on weather radar just like rain does, scientists at Purdue AeroEco Lab / BirdCast can predict massive flight nights.

⚠️ A heads-up from the scientists: BirdCast models are intentionally conservative and tend to underestimate peak events. That means tonight’s actual flight volume could easily surpass what the radar map is predicting!

How you can help tonight:
Because most songbirds migrate under the cover of darkness, artificial lights can disorient them and cause collisions.
💡 Turn off non-essential outdoor lights tonight.
💡 Close curtains or blinds in upper-story rooms.

Big news! We have a few seasonal openings in our park for next year (2027, May 1 - October 1)! We have not had many openings the past few years, so this is a great opportunity if you prefer a wooded, quiet park for your camping season. All sites have full hookups and storage for this winter (in the site) is included in your fees for 2027.

Current availability:

Site 19 (not pictured yet) - 30 amp, can hold your vehicle, a 25-30 foot fifth wheel, and your boat or ATV.

Site 22 (first image) - 30 amp, a 25 foot camper would fit best, along with your vehicle.

Site 36 (second image) - 30 amp, can accommodate a 25 foot camper best, along with your vehicle and boat or ATV.

Check out the eclipse tonight - I have also seen at least one post that said Aurora are possible tonight, too. Good reasons to head outside!

SEE THE LUNAR ECLIPSE: Clear skies across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the U.P. of Michigan should make for ideal conditions to see a deep partial lunar eclipse. This will happen Thursday night into Friday morning, with about 96% of the Moon entering Earth's shadow.
