“Just a coolant leak,” they said… 👀

This 2021 Audi SQ7 4.0T arrived with a check engine light, coolant leak, and turbocharger underboost faults, leaving the vehicle noticeably down on power.

After diagnosing the issue, we found the leaking water pump had done much more than just lose coolant.

The coolant made its way into the vacuum system, contaminating the vacuum hoses and reaching the turbocharger wastegate control valves. Once those valves are contaminated, the wastegates can’t operate correctly, leading to boost leaks, underboost faults, and reduced engine performance.

Needless to say, this isn’t a quick repair. The front end is in service position, and much of the engine has to come apart to access everything properly.

📋 Audi labor times:
🔧 Water pump replacement – 6.9 hours
🔧 Vacuum check valve replacement – 10.9 hours
I’ve learned the Audi won’t sell you just the one solenoid. You have to buy a whole assembly with every check valve, vacuum line, and all the solenoids as a whole assembly at over $600 dollars!

Sometimes the original leak is only the beginning. Proper diagnosis is what prevents replacing parts that won’t fix the problem.

If your Audi is showing a coolant leak, check engine light, or turbo underboost faults, don’t wait until the damage spreads. Shoutout to ECS Tuning for the whole kit to do this repair. Came with everything down to the nuts and bolts!

Crunch 😡 Another Audi 3.0T getting the head rebuilt due to timing chain failure. Putting new tensioners in the car that has loose chains is not going to fix your problem. We normally see these engines start to have timing faults or jump time in the 80K-120K mile mark. It seems to happen earlier on engines that oil services have been neglected or cheap oil/filters have been used. Oil changes are a lot cheaper than engines! .0t #3.0tfsi

S58 Valve cover gasket w/ Vargas Turbo Technologies one way check valve pins for the PCV. Hopefully this will save the valve cover from PCV failure 💨

Just saved this Audi 3.0T before it did more damage than broken guides and jumped timing. Full timing chain kit, PCV valve, camshaft girdle reseal and some well overdue maintenance items. It seems like every higher mileage 3.0T we take apart has the timing guides broken off. .0t
