This is an important reminder to our community about stopping for school buses. It's been a great summer, but school has officially started and we need our community to be aware of school buses.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), most children killed in bus-related incidents are ages four to seven. These tragedies often occur when children are on foot and struck by either the bus or a motorist illegally passing a stopped bus. This behavior is against the law in all 50 states and endangers lives.

If you're driving behind a school bus, please maintain a greater following distance than you would for a regular car. Always watch for the bus's flashing lights, which signal a stop. Treat yellow flashing lights as a warning to slow down and stop completely when the red lights are flashing.

Remember, the area within 10 feet around a school bus is particularly dangerous for children. Always stop far enough away to give them space to safely get on and off the bus.

Let's keep our children safe. Your attention on the road is crucial to their safety.
