Damping adjustment isn't stiffness. Those are two different things.

The spring controls how much the car moves. The damper controls how fast it moves. Turning damping up doesn't make the ride harder the way people expect, it slows the spring down so the car settles instead of bouncing.

That's why a damper matched to your car does more for ride quality than spring rate alone.
