Augusta, Georgia Declares State of Emergency and Implements Overnight Curfew.

Mayor Garnett Johnson has declared a State of Emergency and implemented a temporary overnight curfew effective immediately. This action follows a recommendation from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and is being taken out of an abundance of concern for public safety due to hazardous and deteriorating road conditions across the community. Governor Brian Kemp has also declared a State of Emergency for Augusta.

The curfew will be in effect from 10:15 p.m. tonight, Saturday, January 31, 2026, through 12:00 p.m. Sunday.

Bars and nightclubs are required to cease operations immediately.

This measure is intended to reduce non-essential travel and limit additional risk to residents and first responders as roadway hazards, vehicle accidents, and road closures continue to occur and weather conditions are actively worsening.

Residents are urged to remain home during curfew hours unless travel is essential. Emergency services remain operational.

Augusta officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as appropriate.

Okay folks, let's try this again: CSRA Winter Storm Round 2! 🌨️❄️

⚠️ Remember that travel conditions could be severely impacted, with the extreme cold allowing snow and ice to quickly stick to roads. This will make roadways slick and icy- requiring reduced speeds and care when braking. ⚠️

Follow a trusted weather source for up-to-date weather information, and visit for travel info.

As icy conditions approach the CSRA, make sure you stay safe on the road this weekend! 🌨❄🚗

Stay home and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. If you must drive, plan your route ahead of time and drive with caution! Watch out for changing road conditions- slow down, maintain a safe distance, and avoid sudden stops or turns.

Pack an emergency kit in your vehicle, and keep your gas tank at least half full to ensure heat in case you get stuck or stranded.

Freezing rain can cause black ice, which is nearly invisible and can make driving conditions very dangerous.

REMEMBER: Ice & Snow, Take it Slow!
