Here are the Top 3 things to consider, according to the pros at Fleet Electrical Service:

- Wattage (Capacity) is King: Add up the wattage of all the tools and devices you’ll run simultaneously (chargers, laptops, tools). Always buy an inverter with at least 20% more capacity than that total. Oversize to prevent overloads!
- Pure Sine Wave vs. Modified: Fleet Electrical Service recommends Pure Sine Wave for sensitive electronics like battery chargers and laptops. It provides the same clean power as your home outlet, protecting your most valuable gear.
- Proper Installation: For high-wattage inverters (400W+), you must hardwire directly to the battery with heavy-gauge cables. The cigarette lighter port simply cannot handle the load!
