Howdy folks! 🤠 *(tips hat)*

We recently had an RV in the shop that we've worked on many times over the years.

After completing some extensive body repairs from an accident, we began pressure-testing the propane system and discovered a leak.

At first, it didn't make much sense. The RV had been serviced multiple times, and there had never been any propane-related concerns. After a lot of investigation and discussion, we were finally able to determine what happened.

During the original accident, a propane line had been pulled just enough to create a very small cut in the hose.

What likely caused it?

An unnamed manufacturer had installed screws through the underbelly in an area where the propane lines were routed. When the body shifted during the accident, the propane hose was pulled against one of those screws and suffered a tiny cut.

The damage was almost invisible to the naked eye. Unless someone was specifically pressure-testing the system or thoroughly checking the hose with a leak-detection solution, it would have been very easy to miss.

That's a little scary when you think about it.

So here's a friendly reminder: take a few minutes to look underneath your RV. Pay attention to where propane lines, wiring, and plumbing are routed. Make sure nothing is rubbing, pinched, stretched, or resting against sharp edges or fasteners.

And make sure your RV technician is taking the time to inspect the things you can't easily see.

Sometimes the smallest defects create the biggest safety risks.
