It is with a heavy heart and huge sadness that I announce Kandi’s Rod & Kustoms has shut our doors. Though our phones never stopped ringing with more work, our shop was full of awesome vehicles, and a list of clients that kept growing, we could not survive in a post pandemic world as a small business. With my personal health continuing to decline and having over half a dozen procedures and surgeries this year alone, I had to fully step away. My childhood dream simply couldn’t survive in this post pandemic world without readily available skilled and special trade labor, proper management, and the ever rising cost and delays on parts and supplies in the automotive industry. I am beyond heartbroken. I hope in my years as a female auto body tech, shop manager/owner, that I have in some way pushed the boundaries and tore down walls for future generations of women in the industry. A part of me is dying with this. That 4 year old girl that built hot rod shops and race tracks with her wood blocks and hotwheels cars just found out that Santa isn’t real and magic doesn’t always come when you wish for it the most. I’m in year 8 of pancreatic disease. I now have a permanent port in my chest that will forever be part of me until I’m gone. In the last month or so, we’ve not only lost a parent, I’ve spent over a week in the hospital, experienced two chest tubes and a partial collapsed lung. Earlier this year I spent 3 months in a wheelchair. It’s been incredibly rough. And to end the year, we are forever closing the doors on my biggest dream in this lifetime. I hope you will focus on the good we’ve done in our community over the years. I hope we left a name and a legacy for young ladies that want to work on classic cars and trucks. I hope our impact has been a good one. I want to say thank you for the continued support. And I also want to apologize because this doesn’t just affect me and my husband. There’s a lot that comes with running, let alone closing a business. This is hard. This is beyond hard. Please have patience and grace with us.
Signing off. - Kandi Blaze

We did it! Together with all the combined donations for this years 6th Annual Hayesville-Vermillion Vol. Fire Dept. Halloween CRUISE-IN with Trunk-or-Treat, we raised nearly $6,000 for the Hayesville-Vermillion Vol. Fire Department. Despite the rain and cool temps, car show attendees and the community came together with big hearts and heavy wallets.

During this years event the brand new, life saving, Genesis Rescue Systems™️ extrication device was on display. Donations and continued support from the annual cruise-in assisted in making the nearly $16,000 purchase possible.

Even though the car count was low with the cold and damp weather, we watched as many brought buckets of candy to pass out for the trunk-or-treat portion of the festivities. Car show donations were plentiful from the 22 registered vehicles.

Last year 127 children registered for the costume contest portion of the event. This year we had almost 30 kids register their costumes for the contest trophies while braving the yucky weather. (Best overall costume winner is not shown in the images.) Each kid received a goodie bag from the dept, candy, and lots of Halloween stickers from me personally.

This years Firefighters Choice Award went to Susan McClure and her Pontiac Trans Am. Susan is a local Hayesville resident and gearhead, and has never missed the show. We appreciate the support and dedication.

Local media popped in. Ashland County Ohio News took a variety of pictures. Ashland County Pictures came out and did two live feeds that can be found on their page. One stars yours truly where I’m inside the fire station giving the full details of the cruise-in, events, and why we do it. We even talk about and show the Genesis Rescue Systems extrication device. Another video features the awesome live music we had from Sweet Umbra .

Dilgard Auctions helped us auction off a variety of items. We saw a locally made Dutch apple pie sell for $90! That’s genuine love for your community right there! I may have teared up a bit for the volunteer Fire dept. when the auction prices kept climbing.

Kally Khaos and myself were in a No Flying Zone with our brooms, so Gary Adkins Donley Ford of Ashland brought out this gorgeous Mustang that happened to perfectly match my pumpkin and spiderweb dress from Sourpuss Clothing! By the way, Gary, tell Donley Ford of Ashland I need a Yeti cup.

The Raffle items from of Pain Armament in Hayesville, Ohio were announced at the event and those three winners have been notified. Once background checks have passed we will post their first name, last initial, and city.

There were a ton of smiles Saturday! The free hot chocolate and selfie stations were a huge hit. If you took pics be sure to tag them

There are so many reasons why I host this event every year and help organize it. Despite my health I will give this annual Fire-family event my full energy as long as I’m able. My husband is a full time career firefighter and also a volunteer for Hayesville. My father (Ken “Coop” Cooper 1942-2009) and oldest brother were volunteer firefighters, and my best friend is a strong female firefighter. I do it for them, I do it for their families, and most of all I do it to help the dept save lives in the community and surrounding communities as mutual aid.

Thank you to everyone that helped and supported this event in some shape, way, or form. The love was definitely felt at the 6th annual Hayesville-Vermillion Volunteer Fire Dept cruise in!

Save the date for 2024! It’s always the second Saturday in October.

Xoxo,
Kandi Blaze McCrea

When a community comes together great things can aspire! With the help of this annual event, the Hayesville-Vermillion Volunteer Fire Dept was able to purchase an additional piece of extremely important, life saving equipment for extrication purposes. The Genesis Rescue System™️ allows both cutting and spreading during a vehicle extrication! This powerful piece of machinery will be on display during the 6th annual Cruise-In. Your donations and continued support assisted in making this expensive purchase possible. This year, when you toss your donation for your vehicle registration in the box, or you buy a ticket for the gun raffle, a 50/50 ticket, or perhaps you’re spending your hard earned money on an auction item, you can know that 100% of the proceeds raised go directly to the Volunteer Fire dept. You’re not ‘just’ supporting a volunteer Fire dept, but your helping them save lives within their community, or even as a mutual aid for a neighboring community. Your support for this event literally helps save lives. Please take a moment and re-read the previous sentence. - Kandi

09/27/2023

Dear car family,

The day has come to offer Kandi’s Rods & Kustoms to someone that sees the dream. The phone never stops ringing with new clients and work. We are slammed with jobs, both big and small. From rotisserie builds and hot rod repairs, to collision on newer vehicles. Unfortunately between a post pandemic world and my health; my specialist are saying it’s time to make memories and spend our time together as much as possible. I haven’t been able to work at the physical location for over a year and my husband Rob is pulling 3+ jobs due to my medical expenses and our finances. Therefore, as much as it crushes me, we are selling the business.

Kandi’s has built up a reputation for high quality builds, fabrications, and custom paint jobs over the last several years. Our leased building of nearly 18,000 square foot provides an array of large and open working areas that are divided into 3 large working sections. There’s also an inviting lobby, extra large general office, private office, and lunch room and lots of parking available.

Pre-Pandemic we had 7 employees and were booked approximately 3 years out on rotisserie builds, overhauls, and full paint jobs; not counting the smaller work in between, or the collision on newer vehicles.

We’ve been able to retain our reputation, and our quality, but like most small businesses are now lacking labor and other means to produce in a post pandemic world.

Kandi’s continues to have HUGE potential. A phenomenal reputation across multiple states and within a huge car community. A preferred classic repair shop with Hagerty. An in-house Matrix automotive finishes paint mix system from Shop Owners Warehouse is stationed behind the paint booth. We’re an accredited business with the BBB, and proud members of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. Not to mention busy phones and lots of work to be had.

We’ve also built a reputation with other businesses and well known names like Counts Customs, House of Mouse Racing, Revved Up Motor Co. Box Performance Inc. and others. The work is here. I could book us up for the next 5 years or more on high quality classic car builds.

The Kandi’s name, along with a large variety of shop equipment will be included. We will stay on for up to 3 months to help finish the current jobs that are in progress. During that time we will also assist in bringing in the new jobs, establishing business to client reputations, promoting the shop and new owners with videos, updating the website, etc.

We will assist the buyer in a meeting with the building owners to discuss the business staying on busy Claremont Ave, unless the potential buyer wants to relocate.

We are not looking to get rich, we are looking to get out of our debt. The last year the two of us haven’t been able to give the shop our time with my health. Finding skilled employees has been beyond difficult. The dream, the work, the cars, the flow is here, but we can not do it with just a few people. Kandi’s needs an owner and manager that can give it what we gave a few years ago when my health was so much better.

We are offering two buying options. One is without the Nova and the other is with our 72 Nova so the buyer has immediate advertising. While I’m not posting prices on here, if you’re seriously interested please contact me. We aren’t looking for a huge profit. We just need to be able to breathe again. For about the price of two Kandi’s builds, you could own the name, reputation, future work, and most of the equipment.

We’d like to get it sold before winter. Yes, I’m sad. I’m bawling. I was 4 years old building hot rod shops with my wood blocks and repairing my hot wheels cars. I wasn’t even 10 years old by the time my dad taught me how to restore my banana seat bike. This decision wasn’t over night. We decided a while ago, but it’s taken me this long to finally let go and realize, I can not do this. The pancreas disease and autoimmune are winning and I need to let go. My dream will hopefully be picked up by someone who sees the passion, is obsessed with the cars, and knows the market is here, heavy, profitable, and ready. I just haven’t been able to give it our all with my health and unfortunately our finances have suffered without us being there and in this post pandemic world.

I will do my best to answer any questions I can in messenger. The annual Hayesville Vol. Fire Dept. Cruise-In in October will continue despite these changes. Until I am no longer here I will continue to host the show for them.

I can not express how humbling it is to see two, full rotisserie builds by Kandi’s together at an event. On the left is the 1970 W30 Olds 442 Convertible owned by John Waugh. On the right is the FIRST EVER official Kandi’s Rods & Kustoms build when we first opened our doors. This 1955 Chevy owned by Donny Owens is the car that started it for Kandi’s. An incredible rotisserie build to say the least. You can watch both these builds from start to fully finished on our website: www.KandisKustoms.com
Thank you, John & Donny for sending us these pics. We love it when our clients stay in touch over the years. - Kandi Blaze

FREEDOM. I’ve stood on the same spot on the anniversary where President Lincoln gave the famous Gettysburg address and seen the tombs and graves of the soldiers buried there. I’ve walked the now hallowed ground where battle reined. I visited the Jenny Wade house exactly 155 years to the day of her death. The only civilian life that was lost in the Battle of Gettysburg. On July 4th I stood in line for hours in Philly to see the Liberty Bell on display. Been to the south where layer after layer of history and wars raged. I’ve not fought in a war, but my grandfather and his fathers before him have. I have used the freedoms of speech, the freedom of expression, I have protested for the rights and freedoms of ourselves and others, and held the red, white, and blue high and proud. I don’t need to publicly claim a political party nor a faith to love the country I live in. I saw the graves at Gettysburg. I’ve been to Washington DC and visited the war memorials pre-9/11. Those that gave their all for our freedoms came from all walks of life. All forms of religions and faiths are displayed and engraved on their graves, and those soldiers that gave all came in all shades of skin color. FREEDOM. Freedom isn’t just for you, it’s for all of us. Freedom to choose. Freedom to vote for any political party that best fits you (there are a lot more than two). Freedom to disagree (but don’t be a dick about it). Free to practice a religion or spirituality of your choice. Freedom for the pursuit of happiness. FREEDOM. It’s means something different to almost everyone. Happy Freedom Day as we celebrate our Independence as the UNITED (not divided) States of America. ♥️🤍💙🇺🇸 Let Freedom Ring. - Kandi Blaze
