Restaurant review: Blue Dream Curry House downtown Asheville NC. I had been here one other time and I wasn't thrilled. My curry was watery and expensive. I decided to give it another try. The location is really beautiful. The inside is indeed a blue dream with lots of local art and large windows so you can gawk at Asheville's weirdos. The bathroom is clean and has paper towels. Nice. The service..well here is where I get a little iffy. It's casual counter service which I've never been a huge fan of unless it's coffee or snack type stuff. This restaurant makes sure that we all know they pay a living wage to their employees.Great. Good job, however they seem to have a lack of employees. No host, no servers. If I'm paying good money for food that doesn't come on a paper plate I would prefer to have a server. If something isn't right you have to haul ass all the way back to the counter and wait behind people ordering and such. The erm..order taker was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The portion was good for the money and it came out pretty quickly. They also let you substitute veggies in and out of curries to you liking, which I love. The panang curry I got was ok. It lacked spice and had a stupid amount of peanuts on it. I have had much better. My friend loved hers (she admittedly loves bland food though..so think that over) I personally will go down to South French broad next time to Little Bee Thai if I want a ballin ass curry.

Review: The Stoney K**b Cafe, Weaverville NC. This place has been around since 1962 and I'm sorry I waited so long to try it. The decor is a grandiose and airy art deco dining car with a dining room on each end. You have to see to believe with fireplaces, skylights and eclectic furnishings and art. Modern BoHo cool. I started with a gin and tonic from the cocktail menu and it was beautiful, balanced and tasty with an ice ball and fresh rosemary. Our appetizer the Beef carpaccio was just shy of perfect as they seem to have forgotten the pink sea salt. The beef was fresh and sinfully warm and rare. A good portion too. My entree was a pasta carbonara. It was nice, I especially like the bacon. Very smokey and lent an intensity to the dish without heaviness to the sauce. A1. My red hot dinner date had the scallops and pork belly. Beautifully stacked, and surrounded by fruity gatriques and preserves. I am a Mainer and an decidedly particular about seafood and the scallops were a touch overcooked. Tasty though. This meal would have been more appropriate in a smaller portion as an appetizer in my not so humble opinion. There was really no discernable side or vegetable dispite the mention of being served with potatoes on the menu. We licked our plates loudly made some folks uncomfortable because we also held eye contact with them. We had chocolate cake and coffee to finish up. The coffee was fresh and rich and the cake was dense and wonderful. A really cool place. Don't miss it. Go eat it!

Nearly all Kichwa families have their own chacra, a garden that serves as a source of food and medicine.
