THE CITY OF THE DEAD'S TOP 10 HORROR FILMS TO CUDDLE UP TO THIS HALLOWEEN!
6) (A TIE)
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) &
DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004)
Okay let the bitching begin, yes I choose the 2004 remake over the 1981 original for Dawn of the Dead, why because to me the newer one was more realistic, and the zombies didn't lurk around they flat out chased your butt across the city! George R. Romero is a genius, let us repeat...genius, No he didn't invent the zombie, or the culture, he made it a reality! Even we would not be here if not for the infamous George R. Romero. The Walking Dead either for that sake. So let's begin with the 1968 shocker "Night of the Living Dead" This movie rocked the horror loving world, it was the first of it's kind back in the day, and people actually fainted in cinemas around the country. Most theaters wouldn't show it. It was the first horror movie to honor a black lead as the hero, even though...oops no spoilers, and it was also one of the first to show nudity. Even in Black and white this movie rocked everyone to the core, not until "Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO" would theater audiences relish such a shocking movie. Forget the remake in 1990...that was sacrilegious to even attempt. Now jump to 2004 and a little known director was given the right's to another Romero staple..."Dawn of the Dead" Before you gripe or tear me to shreds, the public outcry over this movie being remade was huge, millions of Romero fans refused to watch it, and yes the movie does leave out the hidden messages of the original, the consumerism's and political undertones as the original became famous for, but my God this movie rocked. The first 15 minutes are so edge of your seat and realistic it will scare the crap out of you...and yes...did that zombie run, unfortunately "28 Days Later" gets the credit for introducing the running zombie, but only because it came out a month or two earlier than this! But I'll tell you what, the zombie apocalypse sure is a little easier to believe if the zombies can haul butt like these do. Grab your popcorn and sweetie and get the whole series if you will. But remember these two for they are both fantastic horror appeal for the perfect Halloween Scarefest! I did say Romero is a genius right?
