Why not USA.

Starting in September 2021, all new vehicles sold in Canada need to have headlights, taillights, and side lights that automatically turn on in the dark. Also, the dashboard won't light up until the headlights are turned on.

Cadillac enjoyed two years of increasing sales pre-pandemic, but MotorTrend hasn't exactly been singing the praises of its heart-of-market XT4, XT5, and XT6 crossover vehicles. The brand hopes to change our tune with the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq (like the song), by giving it dramatic proportions and a brand new face, plus Tesla-esque electric performance, range, and technology.

Apple and Hyundai Could Sign a Deal by March to Begin Producing Apple Cars in the U.S. by 2024,

A deal between Apple and Hyundai to produce the Apple Car could be closer than originally thought, as new details emerge indicating that the two are working toward finalizing the partnership as soon as March, with plans to actually begin producing the first Apple Car by 2024.

We first heard reports last week that Apple and Hyundai were in talks about a partnership to produce Apple’s first electric vehicle, but at the time the talks were described as “at an early stage,” and in fact Hyundai also originally added that it believed Apple was having these discussions with “a variety of global automakers” as well, making the whole thing seem very preliminary.

Zoox Autonomous Robotaxi First Look: Gad-ZOOX, Amazon's Going Mobile!
Amazon's self-driving taxi seats four and can hit 75 mpg going forwards or backwards.

This Bay-Area autonomous vehicle startup was founded in 2014, built its first prototype in 2015, first demonstrated SAE Level-3 autonomy in 2017, began durability testing of production prototypes in 2019, then established a production line in Fremont, California and was acquired by Amazon in May 2020. And that name? It's short for zooxanthellae—a mobile, algae-like organism powered by photosynthesis that thrives in mutually beneficial relationships with coral. Aww.

How Big Is The Zoox Autonomous Vehicle?
This soft-cornered box resembles a dramatically downsized version of other robotaxis like the Continental/Easy Mile CUbE or an upsized version of the tiny Nuro R1 autonomous delivery vehicle. Its wheels are pushed way out to the corners, so if you were to remove the cycle fenders from the tires, the Zoox's approach and departure angle would be 90 degrees; so far, the company has no plan to exploit that feature.

Lane Departure Warning vs. Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Centering: What’s the Difference?

New cars offer advanced safety tech that can keep you from drifting around on the road, but it can be hard to tell one system apart from another. If you've ever wondered what lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and lane centering actually do, keep reading. Are these features worth getting? We'll run through them all so you know exactly what distinguishes lane departure warning from lane keeping assist and lane centering.

What Do These Systems Do?
Lane departure warning is the most basic form of this safety tech. The moment you get close to the dividers or cross into the other lane, the car warns you via beeps or a vibrating steering wheel, as is the case with vehicles made by Nissan and General Motors. A camera mounted in the front of the car or on the windshield tracks your car's trajectory and detects lane lines so it can communicate when you start wandering into another lane. You'll need to steer the vehicle back on center because lane departure warning by itself is a passive system.

Lane keeping assist takes things one step farther by preventing you from crossing into another lane. How does the system do that? By using the steering or gentle braking at the wheel(s) that's about cross over. However, the latter method tends to be more intrusive compared to systems that use the electric power steering system to nudge you back into your lane.

Complementing lane keeping assist and lane departure warning is lane centering, the latest addition to the growing list of driver assistance features. As the name suggests, lane centering keeps you centered in your lane and almost always comes with steering assist to help the vehicle take gentle turns at highway speeds. Nissan's ProPilot Assist system has one of the best lane centering systems, working together with adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist to give the car semi-autonomous capability. Systems from Hyundai, Kia, and Honda work in a similar manne, and also require adaptive cruise control to be active in order to activate.

Are These Features Worth It?
A well-executed lane departure warning system should help you in a subtle manner without stopping conversation because its alert is too loud or the assist of an active system is too jerky. If an automaker's system meets the above criteria, the tech could provide a little peace of mind for your commute. Unless you're after a semi-autonomous driving experience, however, it falls short of a must-have feature.
What To Look For In Good Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, And Lane Centering Systems

Make sure the alerts made by the systems aren't obtrusive. And if you find the alerts distracting, see if they can be reduced in volume.
If there's a visual warning, make sure it's within your line of sight.
Now that you know the difference among the three systems and have the right expectations, make sure the systems don't intervene with abrupt inputs.
See if you can adjust how soon the three systems warn or intervene. That setting will either be in the gauge cluster display or the infotainment system's settings.
Check to see if lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and lane centering require turning on adaptive cruise control to work.
What Do Automakers Call Their Systems For Keeping You In Your Lane?
Chevrolet: Lane Departure Warning
Toyota and Lexus: Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
Honda and Acura: Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation
Hyundai andKia: Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Follow Assist
Nissan and Infiniti: Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Lane Intervention
Subaru: Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lane Keeping Assist
Volvo: Lane Keeping Aid
Mercedes-Benz: Lane Keeping Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist
BMW: Lane Departure Warning
Audi: Lane Keeping System, Audi Active Lane Assist

Sony—Yes, Sony—Unveiled an Electric Car at CES 2020

Cars are transitioning toward electric powertrains, autonomous driving technology and connected online infotainment experiences. These transitions, in turn, have shifted much of the competitive locus of auto-dom from the traditional mechanical developments to the realm of electronics. As a result, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is now as important to automakers as any auto show.

And now, electronics companies, apparently, are making cars. Sony—yes, that Sony—unveiled its Vision-S electric concept car during a presentation at CES 2020.

The Vision-S — a sedan that looks sort of like a Polestar mated with a Porsche — boasts a dual-motor electric powertrain built by Magna Steyr. Sony claims a top speed of 149 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration in less than five seconds. (Sony did not mention the car’s battery capacity or the car’s estimated range.)

The Vision S has 33 different sensors on the car monitoring the external and internal environments. These sensors can, reportedly, allow the car offer Level 2+ autonomous driving systems, as well as monitoring the driver’s attention and providing customized infotainment. Sony also included a sophisticated speaker alignment that provides a surround sound setup for each individual driver, and a Byton-like infotainment screen.

Is Sony about to get into the car production game? Probably not. While electric cars may be the industry’s future, present profits come from selling gasoline-powered pickup trucks and SUVs — and, in Tesla’s case, offsetting the emissions of the companies that do so. The Vision-S is more likely a showcase for what Sony can offer automakers on the tech side.

REVEALED! Mid-Engine 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Makes 495 Horsepower
Your first look at all of the C8 Corvette’s new features.

If you say anything enough, it's bound to come true. In our case, cry "mid-engine Corvette" a sufficient number of times, and eventually Chevrolet will just have to build one. After threatening to build a Corvette with a mid-mounted engine for 50 years, the dream is finally realized: Tonight the mid-engine 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was revealed to crowds of Corvette adorers and media inside a former airship hangar in Tustin, California.

The heart of any Corvette is its engine, no matter where its placed. That remains true for the eighth-generation Corvette Stingray, too. Mounted under just over 0.1 inch of glass is the new Corvette's crown jewel, the LT2 6.2-liter V-8. Good for up to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque (when equipped with the optional performance exhaust system), the LT2 makes 35 more horsepower and 5 lb-ft more torque than the LT1 found in the C7 Corvette Stingray. The new 'Vette's naturally aspirated mill (which Chevy says is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine found in a mid-engine car) is built from an aluminum block, and it's designed to drop weight and the Stingray's center of gravity. It also gets a dry-sump oil system with three scavenge pumps, a first for a base-model Corvette, to deal with lateral acceleration levels that Chevrolet says can exceed 1 g in all directions.
The "jewelry" Chevy fit to the LT2 is less functional but arguably just as important. Given that the engine is exposed for all to see, the Corvette's engine is designed to be seen, with, as Chevy says in its press release, "every part … built with appearance in mind.
