Whew!!! That was a lot of work!!! Black + tons of swirls + GM paint…notorious for being hard as a rock = 2 step paint correction, numerous panel cleanings, lots of sweat, and possibly one of my best results yet!!!
Now mind you, these are “glory shots”…kinda easy to make black paint look good in a shop setting. What really makes the difference is sunlight, or a paint light. THAT will reveal how good the job actually is!!!
The bright light is very unforgiving and will reveal a number of sins including streaks and holograms.
The reason I’m able to work with black paint with the degree of success I achieve is because I ALWAYS use my light to gauge how well I’m actually doing. If I see those aforementioned imperfections, time to put more work in!!!
As shown in previous posts, this truck had a ton of swirling, and a fair share of scratches. I ended up having to use my aggressive cutting pad and compound to remove the vast majority of imperfections, panel wipe, then redo everything with my polish pad and polish compound. From there, another go over with my panel prep, (basically to remove any oils, or other impurities left on the paint, leaving a clean surface), and then applied SB3 ALPHA ceramic coating. A bit more (actually, a lot more), labor intensive, but the depth of shine and 3-5 year protection is well worth the effort!!!
All trim received SB3’s ceramic trim protection giving one full year of protection, while giving the trim a like new appearance!!
The chrome and wheels were polished and sealed with JaxWax metal polish.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, treated the engine compartment to a steam cleaning and dressed it…
Ran out of time for the interior!!!Grrrrrrrr!!!!
When viewing photos, most were taken in portrait mode and best viewed in that manner!!!
