⚠️ Community Scam Warning ⚠️
I want to make everyone aware of a phone scam attempt that happened to me last night because these scammers are using fear and intimidation to pressure people into sending money.
I received a call from a blocked phone number from someone claiming to be with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office. The caller had my name, but incorrect address information, and stated that I had supposedly signed for a court summons and failed to appear.
The caller then attempted to escalate the situation by claiming there were civil and criminal charges being pursued against me in connection with a “federal case.” He repeatedly tried to create urgency and pressure while refusing to provide legitimate verification information.
When asked for:
• His TCOLE number
• Direct supervisor information
• Court information
• Proper verification through dispatch
He refused or gave inconsistent answers.
I contacted an actual local law enforcement officer with the Sheriff’s Office while still on the call, and it was immediately confirmed this was a scam that has reportedly been circulating recently.
Please remember:
🚫 Legitimate law enforcement agencies do NOT:
• Demand money over the phone
• Call from blocked numbers regarding warrants or jury duty
• Refuse identity verification
• Force you to remain on a phone call
• Request payment to avoid arrest or prosecution
If you receive a suspicious call:
✔ Hang up immediately
✔ Contact the agency directly using their publicly listed phone number
✔ Never provide personal or financial information
✔ Do not send money, gift cards, wire transfers, or electronic payments
Please share this to help protect others, especially elderly family members and anyone who may panic when hearing words like “warrant,” “judge,” or “federal case.”
Stay safe and stay alert
