Do you really know how to control these big motors? 🤔

These bikes can get away from you faster than you can react and I’m including myself in that. I’ve been riding for years and a Milwaukee 8 has still caught me off guard with what it can do. Especially for you guys out there building these motors. It’s fun, but it can be a dangerous game.

When Larry built the 135 that’s on his bike now, he knew it put down power, But he didn’t know just how wild it could get. Shift into third and that things torque is throwing a wheelie without even trying. They’re absolute torque monsters once they get moving. They take a second to get there, because you’re still moving 900 pounds of motorcycle. But once they do get there, they get there fast.

M8 make it fun to jack around and get wild. But just know what you’re getting into. Keep yourself and other riders around you safe on the roads. Know your ability before you chase the horsepower. The bike doesn’t care either way.

What’s your bike pushing?

So you wanna know a classic motor that you don’t have to baby to keep it alive?
I’m sending you to an 80-inch Shovel every time. You can lean on them, run them hard, and they’ll take it. Ask me how I know. I beat on mine a little too hard actually, but the point stands.

The 80-inch is also where you start making real power with a Shovel. John Harmon was building 120 cubic inch racing Shovelheads. Now it was a total loss system, no stator, every inch of that motor dedicated to going fast in a straight line. Quarter mile, that’s it. That’s all it needed to do. And it did it.

For a street build you actually want to ride cross country without stress, the 80-inch Shovel is the sweet spot between old school character and real world reliability. I’ll stand behind that one.

These Harley crate motors have gotten pretty impressive. 145 from a the stock motor and you could easily push it up to 170 with a cam and tune.

This bike has the Horsepower Inc. (HPi) exhaust and it sounds about as good as it looks. Love what those guys are doing. You may not see me riding new bikes but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them. You can do some crazy stuff with these motors even if they’re still limiting you to 109mph 😂

You might think you know. But I promise someone’s gonna fight you in the comments 🤣

Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead, Evolution. Yes there’s flatties and iron heads and M8s. Harley Davidson made more than just those four motors. But realistically no ones putting M8s in choppers yet and if i didn’t list it in video we made there’s a reason. Either it’s not practical or it’s a pain in the ass to keep running.

But let me know what you think in the comments. 👇🏼

was beyond a good time, make sure if you missed this year you add it to your list next year!!!!

The Genny can get overlook for Pans and Evos. But it’s a gem.

The ’66-‘69 Generator Shovel. The Genny Shovel is essentially a Panhead bottom end with the new Shovel top. Harley was still using leftover Pan cases while they worked on pushing the cubic inches up, improving flow, and slowly working the leak rate down. Every year they got a little closer. It’s got that classic B-side slab cam cover that carried through the whole era and gives choppers that unmistakable old school profile from the right side.

It’s not the most practical motor you’ll ever own. But it’s a cool vintage motor at a much more affordable price than a Pan or a Knuckle.

What’s your dream build motor? Drop it below.
