Have you seen the fruit trees around Ruidoso Downs full of fruit this year?

Fruit trees and orchards have a long history in the mountain valleys of Lincoln County. Early homesteaders and local families planted apple and stone-fruit trees throughout the river valleys, growing fruit for local trade, roadside stands, and family canning.

This photo takes us back to 1946–1947, showing apples being packed in the Ruidoso Valley. Nearly 80 years later, fruit trees are still part of the landscape and history of our area.
