We had a shop full of Chevys this week. The Silverado in the middle came in for quite a few concerns, one being the AC blowing hot. Standard AC diagnostics were performed and it was found to be undercharged.
All AC concerns have leaks checked for and repaired first, which thankfully this situation was only a leak, albeit a very tiny one. The evaporator core was leaking, and not enough to produce a stream of dye. We had to use an electronic leak detector that kept alerting to the vents in the truck when the blower was on.
At first glance with pulling the evaporator, it didn’t appear to have a leak and I was concerned about a false positive. The detector was spot on though, pulling the foam back we found the leak, as you can see by the picture in black light.
Customers back on the road with some other repairs, and a good working AC, just in time for the summer. Another ride we kept Electrified!
