Be safe out there during this busy holiday season!
Collision Scene Procedures and Precautions
If you are involved in a collision, the first thing you should do is stop! If you leave the scene of an accident that you are involved in, you may be charged with a “hit and run.” Once you have stopped your vehicle, call 9-1-1 to report the incident to the authorities. By calling 9-1-1, you can also alert emergency response vehicles if anyone is injured due to the collision.
Park off the Road Surface
Once you have come to a stop, if you are not severely injured and your vehicle is operable, try to move it off the roadway. By doing so, you will avoid blocking the flow of traffic and any further potential collisions with other vehicles. If the vehicle is disabled, any persons inside should attempt to move away from the vehicle. Severely damaged vehicles could possibly catch fire or cause additional collisions if they are blocking the roadway.
