🏁 ON THIS DAY IN MOTORSPORTS 🏁

On August 26, 1967, 68 year old New Zealand native Burt Munro proved that speed doesn't care how old you are when he took his home-built 1920 Indian Scout to the Bonneville Salt Flats and made motorcycle history.

After decades of modifying the Indian in his home workshop, Munro set the under-1000cc land-speed record with a two-way average of 183.586 MPH—later corrected to 184.087 MPH. His fastest one-way run was 190.07 MPH.

The record was set on a motorcycle that was 47 years old. That's the part of the story that never gets old.

68 years old. 47-year-old motorcycle. 184 MPH. And a record that still stands today.

Born August 13, 1988, Ryan Villopoto was one of the most dominant riders of his generation. He captured: 4 AMA Supercross titles, 2 AMA Motocross titles, 3 Motocross Lites championships, and a 250SX West title - That's ten professional championships, all in a span of under 10 years.

🏁 On This Day in Motorsports – July 30 🏁

Today, we celebrate Nikki Hayden (07.30.1981-05.22.2017)

Known as the "Kentucky Kid," former AMA Superbike and MotoGP champion Hayden was one of the brightest stars in motorcycle racing. He was respected not only for his speed, but for his sportsmanship and unwavering work ethic. Even years after his tragic passing in 2017 following a bicycle accident in Italy, he remains one of the most beloved figures in motorcycle racing.

Happy Birthday, Nicky. Your legacy continues to inspire racers and fans around the world. 🏍️🏁

🏁 On This Day in Powersports History – July 17 🏁

On this day in 1929, Allan Hetteen was born in Roseau County, Minnesota. Growing up on a dairy farm near Roseau, he would go on to help change the powersports industry forever.

As a co-founder of Polaris Industries, Hetteen played a key role in developing some of the company's earliest snow machines, helping transform them from practical utility vehicles into the recreational snowmobiles that introduced generations of riders to winter adventure.

Happy Birthday to one of Minnesota's greatest powersports pioneers!

🏁 On This Day In Motorsports: 🏁

Born on June 26, 1971, Max Biaggi became one of the most successful road racers of his generation.

Known as “The Roman Emperor,” Biaggi dominated the 250cc World Championship in the 1990s, winning four consecutive world titles from 1994-1997 before moving up to the premier class.

He went on to battle legends like Valentino Rossi in MotoGP, collecting multiple wins at the highest level before finding a second career peak in Superbike World Championship — where he won two World Superbike titles in 2010 and 2012.
