Our free AC Performance Check was set to end today. We extended it through September 30 instead. Albuquerque's normal September high is still 83 degrees, and we have hit 100 as late as September 5.

Pressure test, vent temperature measured against ambient, compressor and belt inspection, condenser and cabin filter check, leak inspection if the numbers call for it.

The National Weather Service is calling for record and near-record highs across the metro through Friday. Albuquerque is sitting near 99 today and 98 tomorrow, five to ten degrees above where we should be this time of year.

Here is the part most people get backwards. Air conditioning systems do not fail on the first hot day of summer. They fail at the end of it. A charge that ran a little low in May has spent three months circulating less refrigerant, and the compressor oil travels with that refrigerant. Three months of road dust in the condenser on top of it. By the last week of August the system is working much harder to move much less heat.
