Love salmon or trout… but hate when the “fish smell” lives in your RV for 2 days?

Here’s the RV truth: it’s usually not the fish—it’s steam + splatter. Fish oils land on curtains and upholstery, and that’s what lingers. The goal is simple: minimize aerosol, ventilate hard, and clean fast.

3 low-odor ways to cook fish on the road:
1) Outside if you can (best option)
Portable grill/griddle/camp stove = almost zero indoor smell.

2) Foil (or parchment) packet in the oven/toaster oven (best indoor option)
Seal fish with lemon + herbs + a little butter/olive oil, bake 375–425°F, and open the packet outside if possible (that one move changes everything).

3) Air fryer (fast + contained)
Use a parchment liner, keep glazes light (avoid sugary burns), and wipe the basket while it’s still warm.

Quick “10-minute reset” that actually works:
- Turn the vent fan on before you start, then crack a window for cross-breeze
- Wipe surfaces right after cooking (fish oil is the culprit)
- Zip-bag scraps/packaging and take it out right away

Now your turn: What’s your go-to no-smell method or favorite seasoning combo for salmon or trout?

If you’re rolling through Albuquerque near I-40/Route 66, save this for your next stop at American RV Resort—and drop your best tip below so we can try it, too.

Desert dust tip that actually works: the two-mat “airlock.”

One mat outside scrapes off the chunky grit in your shoe treads.
A second mat just inside catches the fine, talc-like silt that still sneaks in on that last step (and on paws, socks, and bare feet).

Quick setup:
• Outside (scrape zone): heavy, non-slip rubber or bristle mat with deep grooves, big enough for 2–3 steps
• Placement: set it a half-step before the door so you naturally wipe before grabbing the handle
• Inside (capture zone): microfiber or “walk-off” mat with rubber backing, long enough for 1–2 steps
• Bonus upgrade: add a small boot tray inside for shoes/kid sandals/dog leashes

The 3-second protocol:
1) Step, scrape, twist outside
2) Step, wipe inside
3) Optional: shoes “parking spot” by the door

If you’re rolling through Albuquerque, this little trick makes RV living feel so much cleaner—especially after a windy day. Planning your next stop at American RV Resort? Save this tip for your stay, and tell us: team two mats, or team shoes-off?

Albuquerque’s Downtown exists because a train skipped Old Town in April 1880.

When the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway reached Albuquerque, it deliberately bypassed the 1706 Spanish plaza settlement (Old Town) by about a mile—choosing flatter ground for the tracks. That one decision sparked a brand-new “New Town” along the rail line, laid out on a modern grid that became today’s Downtown.

Almost overnight, hotels, saloons, warehouses, and shops clustered around the depot to serve travelers and railroad workers. The city boomed from roughly 2,000 residents around 1880 to well over 10,000 by the early 1900s—powered by rail jobs, new businesses, and people arriving from across the country.

The railroad made Albuquerque a division point and service hub (think yards and repair work), linking the city east toward Kansas and the Midwest and west toward Arizona and California—pulling Albuquerque into national markets and changing its future.

Want a “then vs. now” moment? Look for the contrast between Old Town’s plaza layout and Downtown’s railroad-era street grid. And if you’ve heard of the Alvarado Hotel (built in 1902, demolished in 1970), today’s Alvarado Transportation Center stands on that historic rail-gateway site.

Staying at American RV Resort soon? What would you explore first: Old Town’s plaza or the Downtown rail corridor?

If your RV feels gritty, your slide toppers are grinding sand into themselves every time you retract.

Monsoon dust + wind turns into sandpaper because toppers roll up tight. Any grit left on the fabric gets compressed and dragged across the material, which can lead to thinning, fuzzing, pinholes, seam wear, and frayed edges. That same grit can also migrate into the roller ends, the rail/track, and even your seals—making everything work harder (and letting more dirt inside). Add moisture to the mix and rolled-up darkness can invite mildew stains and odors if you put it away wet.

A quick post-storm routine (5–10 minutes):
1) Extend the slide fully so the topper is open.
2) Dry removal first: use a leaf blower or a soft broom with very light pressure, working from the coach outward.
3) If needed, do a gentle hose rinse (skip the aggressive nozzle).
4) Let it dry before retracting if you can—even 20–30 minutes helps. If you must retract wet, set a reminder to extend later and dry it out.

Avoid the fast mistakes that shorten topper life:
- Don’t scrub before you rinse (that’s just grinding grit in).
- Don’t pressure wash up close.
- Don’t roll it up wet and forget it.

Traveling through Albuquerque during monsoon season? Keep American RV Resort in mind as your easy stop near I-40/Route 66—then tell us: what’s your go-to slide-topper cleaning trick when the grit hits?

Marshmallow keep catching fire? It’s the sugar scorching in direct flame—use steady, even heat instead.

Two ways to get that perfect toast:
1) Edge-of-the-flame slow rotate (fastest)
- Hold it just outside the flame where you feel strong heat
- Roll the stick between your fingers for a smooth, constant turn

2) Over-coals method (most even)
- Wait for glowing coals with a light ash coat
- Hold it about 6–10 inches above and rotate slowly for a golden shell

Quick s’mores upgrade:
- Warm your chocolate on the graham for 10–20 seconds first
- Build it, then wait 10–15 seconds before the first bite (less ooze, more melt)

Rescue plan if it ignites: don’t wave it—blow it out like a candle, let it cool a beat, and keep going.

Now settle the debate: what’s your trick for keeping marshmallows from catching fire—slow rotate at the edge or toast over coals?

If Albuquerque is on your route, consider American RV Resort as your easy home base near I-40/Route 66 with pull-through and back-in full-hookup sites (large-rig friendly up to ~70 ft.), a dog park, playground, and a seasonal heated pool + hot tub. Share your method—American RV Resort wants to hear it.

Campsite pancake poll: are you Team Squeeze Bottle or Team Bowl? 🥞

Team Squeeze Bottle (the fast, low-mess crew): load dry mix at home, add water at camp, shake, and pour. Pro tip: add about 80–90% of the water first, shake hard, rest 3–5 minutes, then splash in the rest to get your perfect thickness.

Team Bowl (the fluffy-perfection crew): easier texture control and mix-ins for a bigger group. Pro tip: don’t overmix—tiny lumps are fine. Sprinkle blueberries or chocolate chips on top after you pour so they don’t sink and scorch.

Bonus hack if you’re feeling clever: use a freezer zip-top bag as the “bowl,” add water, knead, then snip a corner and pipe batter like frosting. Minimal dishes, easy cleanup.

Which team are you—squeeze bottle or bowl? Tell us why, and we’ll add your tip to our camp-breakfast idea list at American RV Resort.
