Every time I get into a Volvo there's a moment, usually within the first few seconds, where everything just settles.

The cabin is quiet in a way that feels considered rather than coincidental. The visibility gives you a sense of control before you've even pulled out of the driveway. Everything is where your hand expects it to be and nothing is designed to impress you at the expense of actually being useful.

I've been in a lot of cars over the years and that particular feeling, where the car seems to work around you rather than the other way around, is rarer than most people realise.

It's one of those things that's difficult to explain in a spec sheet but impossible to miss once you've felt it.

Most car brands will tell you theirs is the safest, and I'm sure some of them even mean it.

Volvo says it too, but here's the difference: they've been building it that way since before most brands made it a campaign.

If you didn't already know, Volvo invented the 3-point seatbelt and gave the tech away for free so the rest of the world could use it. True story! That's the kind of brand this is.

I've spoken to a lot of people who chose Volvo after driving something else for years, and the one thing they almost always say is some version of: "I don't know, it just felt different."

For me, that's not marketing. It's what happens when safety isn't a feature, but the starting point for every decision made in the car.

After years of representing this brand, that's the part I'm most proud to stand behind.

As a dad, husband and son myself, I understand what vehicle safety actually means, and while the design is refined and the tech is genuinely impressive... when it comes to what to compare first, safety is my personal number one.
