P0420 Catalyst Efficiency Diagnosis – Honda Vezel Hybrid

Today at Cousins' Services & HSD Hybrid & EV Services, we’re going beyond simply reading a trouble code.

Our Topdon Phoenix Max scan tool detected P0420 – Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold on this Honda Vezel.

Instead of immediately condemning the catalytic converter, we’re using the LAUNCH VSP-828 Videoscope to visually inspect inside the exhaust/catalyst system for signs of:

🔥 Damaged or melted catalyst material
🔍 Cracks or deterioration
🚧 Blockage or restriction
🛢️ Oil or fuel contamination

⚠️ Physical damage to the catalyst substrate
A P0420 code doesn’t automatically mean “replace the catalytic converter.” Proper diagnostics should include scan-data analysis, checking O₂/A/F sensor operation, exhaust leaks, engine performance, and physical inspection where appropriate.
