Story Time

One of our customers brought his motorcycle to our workshop and told us that the piston has seized. When we opened up his bike to check, we realised that there's no engine oil at all. We asked him when was the last time he did his engine oil servicing, and he said, "Two months ago". For reference, the motorcycle in question is a Yamaha FZ16.

What happens when your motorcycle runs out of oil?

When a motorcycle runs out of oil, the engine will begin to overheat and potentially ruin the engine altogether. The pistons will likely seize within the cylinder walls because oil acts as both a lubricant and as a cooling agent.

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR BIKES!

Lately, we've seen a couple of bikes in our workshop that are down for overhaul. But not only that, their bikes were in a terrible state, with engine casing all damaged.

Here's the brutal truth, even if you ride a Class 2B bike, your repair costs can go up to thousands if there are a lot of parts that needs to be replaced. So, in order to avoid that, our advice is for you to PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR BIKES.

Do your regular and periodic servicing and maintenance, and whenever you realise that something is wrong, such as when you hear funny noises, etc., GET THE PROBLEM RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY.

3 Common Signs Your Bike Needs an Engine Overhaul

1) Engine Knocking & Rumbling Noises

Do you hear a lot of knocking sounds coming from your bike? Specifically, from the engine itself?

It might mean that the piston’s connecting rod is either bent or broken. The connecting rod attaches the piston head to the crankshaft and controls the movement of the piston itself. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a two-stroke or a four-stroke engine – if the connecting rod is broken or bent, it means that the compression of the air/fuel mixture is ineffective. And this is the most common reason for engine knocking.

Alternatively, the main bearings could be broken.

2) General Engine Neglect

Mileage doesn’t necessarily need to be the be-all-end-all determining whether an overhaul is necessary. Even a high-milage engine can run great, provided it has been maintained regularly.

Neglect, on the other hand, is a very different story. It doesn’t matter how high or low the mileage for your engine is – if it’s neglected, it will run poorly nonetheless.

3) High Oil Consumption or Excessive Smoke

If you’re bike’s running through oil and belching out more smoke than usual, it could be a sign that the piston rings are worn-out.

The piston rings are found on the side of the piston head and are there to:

- Scrape off excessive oil deposits from the cylinder walls
- Provide a seal to prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber

The extra smoke could also be a sign of a head gasket leak.

Immediately get your bike checked and get the problem resolved the moment you realise these issues. Delayed repairs could lead to more damages to the internal parts, thus causing you to have to fork out more dollars.

1) Fahmoto Services - Motorcycle Mechanic

Responsibilities:
- providing customers with information on repair and maintenance procedures;
- making cost estimates for repair and maintenance procedures to provide to customers;
- explaining repair and maintenance procedures prior to beginning work;
- diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and overhauling motorcycles and other similar vehicles;
- performing both preventative and regular maintenance on motorcycles;
- operating a series of equipment and tools in order to manage diagnosis and repair and maintenance procedures;
- taking on other ad-hoc duties as necessary.

2) FM KalerWerkz - Automotive Paint Prepper

Responsibilities:
- assisting in the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of parts and equipments;
- removing of dirt and debris from the surface of parts due for painting;
- filling in dents, scratches, and other imperfections on parts;
- sanding down and removing paint or rust to ensure smooth surfaces;
- buffing and waxing the finished paintwork;
- ensuring zero defects on end product;
- taking on other ad-hoc duties as necessary.

3) FM KalerWerkz - Automotive Spray Painter

Responsibilities:
- performing preparation works and vehicle spray painting jobs;
- sanding down, cleaning of vehicle, preparing auto parts and other vehicle components prior to spray painting job;
- administering mixing of colours to ensure colour matching on all new and old vehicle body applications;
- carrying out priming, spray painting and polishing works in accordance to the Company’s SOP;
- maintaining consistent high quality work performance;
- taking on other ad-hoc duties as necessary.
