Electric vehicle owners are overwhelmingly sticking with their choice, with a new J.D. Power 2026 study finding that 96% would consider buying or leasing another EV as their next vehicle, even with the $7,500 federal tax credit now expired. The firm credited improvements in battery technology, charging infrastructure, and overall performance for pushing owner satisfaction to its highest level ever, a notable turnaround after a couple of years when buyers were frustrated with tech glitches and public charging. Tesla sits at the center of that loyalty story, recently claiming the top spot in S&P Global Mobility's 2026 US brand loyalty rankings with 61.1% of owners returning for another Tesla, edging out long-standing loyalty leaders like Toyota, Subaru, and even Ferrari, while climbing more than six points from the previous year. Much of that staying power comes from advantages rivals struggle to match, including regular over-the-air updates that make the car better over time, the Supercharger network, and features like FSD. Once drivers experience instant torque, one-pedal driving, and a quiet cabin, going back to gas is a tough sell.
