The Suzuki Vitara has come a long way from its off-roading roots. The new e Vitara is fully electric, and while it will not be crawling over rocks any time soon, there is plenty to like about this compact SUV.

With 142hp, 193Nm and a 49kWh battery, the Singapore-spec e Vitara is not chasing performance records. Instead, it delivers a comfortable drive, confident handling and a cabin that feels thoughtfully put together.

The infotainment system could do with an update, the 360-degree camera could be sharper, and the boot is not exactly cavernous. But behind the wheel, the e Vitara feels refreshingly like a traditional car — and that is meant as a compliment.

The Proton e.MAS 5 is the Malaysian carmaker’s second electric car in Singapore, and unlike its bigger e.MAS 7 sibling, this one comes in a compact hatchback package.

But do not let the size fool you. With a 2,650mm wheelbase, it has room for four adults, a 375-litre boot, a 70-litre frunk and enough storage compartments to make you wonder where Proton managed to hide them all.

It is comfortable, easy to manoeuvre and surprisingly willing through the bends. The infotainment system could be snappier, and the audio could be better, but the e.MAS 5 gets the fundamentals right.

There’s also five years of data roaming in Singapore and Malaysia, plus roadside assistance for trips into Peninsular Malaysia.

Yes, it wears LingLong tyres. They are decent enough, so probably need not Lelong them away.

The all-new Toyota bZ4X Touring is now available in Singapore, packing 375hp, all-wheel drive and a 550-litre boot. It also gets a longer rear profile, extra rear headroom, a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.

With Dual-function X-MODE and Downhill Assist Control, it has added traction technology for more challenging surfaces — although Singapore’s carpark kerb mounting are more of a reality.
