FARE COMPARISONS (for PHV drivers)
For the sake of avoiding unfair comparisons due to price surge, we set the pick up location all the way at Joo Koon MRT.
Then destination to Changi Airport Jewel.
Day: Wednesday 16th Dec 2020
Time: 1.30pm
$35 x 0.8 = $28 (before incentives)
(Not very clear about Grab's incentives scheme, hence will appreciate the advice of anyone who knows.)
$30.40 (+$3 already discounted - $0.70 platform fee) x 0.8 = $26.16 (before incentives)
+ $1.20 (20pts incentives achieved), or
+ $1.50 (40 pts incentives achieved), or
+ $1.80 (60pts incentives achieved), or
+ $2.10 (80pts incentives achieved), all above excluding loyalty rebate.
$28.50 (-$0.30 platform fee) = $28.20
(when it was still around)
($3.50 base fare, $0.50 per km, $0.25 per minute.)
Estimated fare:
$3.50 + ($0.50 x 43km) + ($0.25 x 37min)
= $34.25 x 0.8 = $27.40
While claims to have a fairer fare structure for drivers, due to no commissions charged, their fares are about 14% lower in general. Nett take home is about the same for the larger platforms after commissions paid.
And that's before taking into consideration the longer wait time between jobs and the opportunity loss that comes with the waiting.
Some food for thoughts on a Thursday morning.
