Toyota is reportedly preparing a new generation of its iconic Corolla, with production in China expected to begin in 2028. According to reports citing Japan's Nikkei Asia, the lineup could include a fully electric version, marking a significant development for one of the world's most recognizable car models.

The vehicle is expected to be produced by FAW Toyota, Toyota's joint venture with China's FAW Group. Rather than abandoning gasoline engines entirely, Toyota is reportedly considering a lineup that includes fully electric, hybrid and gasoline-powered options, giving customers more flexibility.

The timing is significant. Chinese automakers have rapidly expanded their electric vehicle offerings, competing aggressively on price, technology and development speed. Building the Corolla in China could help Toyota respond to that competition and take advantage of the country's established EV supply chain.
