Category A recorded the largest increase, rising $6,997 to $139,001. Category B increased $433 to $132,334, while Open Category (Cat E) rose $208 to $135,998. Category C fell $200 to $92,000.

🚗 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡? 📉

Following our earlier post on the new private-hire car financing restrictions, let's examine what this could mean for the COE market.

📉 𝟯 𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛

1️⃣ Demand may moderate**
Buyers relying on generous financing arrangements may reconsider their purchases.

2️⃣ Demand may simply shift**
Some buyers could turn to company-owned vehicles or leasing instead, limiting the impact on COE demand.

3️⃣ COE supply remains unchanged**
Without an increase in COE quotas, competition for certificates could remain strong.

💡 𝗥𝗧𝗠𝗧'𝗦 𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪

While the new restrictions are a step towards curbing financing-driven demand, lower COE prices are not guaranteed.

The upcoming COE bidding exercises will provide an early indication of whether these changes are making a difference but the overall effect may be masked by the recent order bank collected from the Cars@Expo.

Will buyers hold back, or will COE premiums remain resilient?

🚗 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗖𝗔𝗥 𝗟𝗢𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗘𝗦 — 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗔𝗟𝗟?

From 30 October 2026, individuals buying private-hire cars will face the same loan restrictions as ordinary car buyers:

✅ Maximum financing of 60%–70%
✅ Minimum down payment of 30%–40%
✅ Maximum loan tenure of 7 years

📊 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙊𝙀 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨?

The Government revealed that approximately 500 individually owned private-hire cars have been registered monthly.
That's equivalent to around 6,000 registrations annually.
Some buyers may have used private-hire registration to obtain more generous financing terms.
With this loophole closed, COE demand could ease.
But will COE prices actually fall?

Not necessarily.

Company-owned private-hire cars remain exempt, while the overall COE quota remains unchanged.

📉 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀:

The restrictions could reduce speculative or financing-driven demand, but any meaningful decline in COE premiums will depend on how many buyers exit the market rather than switch to other ownership arrangements.

What's your view? Will this finally ease COE prices?

🚗 **𝗖𝗢𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦: 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡?**

The latest COE quota announcement reveals an interesting trend.

📊 **November 2026 – January 2027**
- Cat A: No increase
- Cat B: +3.3%
- Overall supply: +1.1%

🔎 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚?

For the first time since February 2025, both Cat A and B will receive ZERO additional or forward-redistributed COEs.

Despite the Government's programme to inject up to 20,000 additional COEs, the latest figures suggest a shift towards relying on natural vehicle deregistrations.

📈 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗔𝗟𝗟?

With virtually no increase in passenger-car supply, a significant COE price correction appears unlikely unless demand weakens.

💡 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪:

The Government appears focused on managing COE supply fluctuations rather than bringing prices down aggressively.

Thinking of changing your car? Don't assume that waiting will guarantee cheaper COEs.
