Subaru’s Shocking Comeback: The STI Returns With Two New Concepts and a Hatchback Revival

Subaru is officially bringing back its iconic STI badge and the hatchback body style fans have been begging for. After years of speculation, the automaker has confirmed plans to reveal two new STI performance concepts at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show, signaling a bold new direction for the brand.

The first model, known as the Performance-B STI, marks the return of the boxer engine and Subaru’s signature all-wheel-drive setup. From the teaser images, the car’s silhouette makes one thing clear: the hatchback is back. With wide fenders, sharp aerodynamics, and a lower stance than the current WRX, this model looks ready to bring Subaru’s rally spirit into the modern era.

The second concept, the Performance-E STI, takes the opposite route an all-electric performance model that represents Subaru’s first true step into EV territory. The company says it will showcase the next generation of STI performance, combining instant torque with precise control and advanced technology.

By bringing both an internal combustion and electric STI to Tokyo, Subaru is proving that performance and innovation can coexist. The return of the hatchback makes this reveal even more special, reigniting nostalgia for models like the WRX STI hatch that enthusiasts still miss today.
