- Porto — start and end of the loop
- Minho (Viana do Castelo, Braga) — coastline, granite villages, waterfalls near Peneda-Gerês
- Trás-os-Montes (Chaves, Bragança, Miranda do Douro) — thermal springs, Montesinho forest, cliffs above the Douro
- Douro (Régua, Foz Côa) — vineyard terraces, prehistoric rock art by the river
