1️⃣ Visual check — leaks at fittings, evaporator drain, damaged belt, broken condenser fins
2️⃣ System pressure — low side too high + high side too low often points to a weak compressor; both low = refrigerant charge issue
3️⃣ Clutch engagement — if the compressor clutch isn't cycling, check the pressure switch, relay, and clutch coil
4️⃣ Refrigerant identification — confirm what's in the system before recovery
5️⃣ Leak detection — UV dye or electronic detector before recharging
