On World Mental Health Day, we’re highlighting our programmes which help employers to better support nursing staff’s mental health.

These include our Supporting Compassionate Practice Environments (SCoPE) which helps create compassionate, psychologically safe working environments where staff feel supported, valued and able to deliver the safe and effective care expected of them.

We’ve also commissioned BLUE, a 35-minute performance exploring mental health challenges experienced by nursing staff.

Each performance is followed by a guided self-reflection and discussion session for audiences to ask what could be done to support mental health in the workplace.

You can invite this performance into your workplace alongside our Supporting Compassionate Practice Environments framework.

The latest data shows nearly 100,000 instances of corridor care in England in September. The highest number of instances since data was first published, and up 14% since May.

But corridor care isn’t just an issue in England. We know this is impacting nursing staff and patients across the UK.

That’s why we’re also calling on the Scottish government to urgently start collection of data on care taking place in inappropriate places.

“Without consistent measuring and reporting of data on corridor care, it is simply impossible to have an accurate picture of the true scale of the problem in Scotland or work out if measures taken are having any effect," said Colin Poolman, Executive Director of RCN Scotland.
