A new auto policy draft proposes booking rules aimed at reducing “on-money” in the car market. Under the draft, the booking advance would be capped at 20%. The price would be locked at the time of booking, except for government tax increases. Vehicles would be registered in the actual buyer’s name before delivery.

Alleged auto policy presentation is making waves! 🚗⚡ It reportedly proposes lower import duties for small EVs and L6/L7 vehicles. For L6/L7 CBU imports, the concessional duty could drop from 25% to 5% for two years. For small EVs up to $15K and L6/L7, duty on localized CKD parts would stay at 5% through FY2028-29, rise to 20% in FY2029-30, then fall to 15% in FY2030-31. These are alleged proposals and not yet confirmed.
