Once sorted properly it runs better than new.

Our involvement started in Dec 2024. The owner reached out after ongoing drivability issues could not be resolved by the previous shop or the dealer. The car was already outside a stock configuration. Support was taken on as a package and settled before any work began. EcuTek Connect was provided and data logs were reviewed remotely. This led to the diagnosis of a leak. With guidance on where to inspect the issue was corrected remotely.

A ProTune custom map was sent via phone flash using EcuTek Connect Cloud. This allowed the owner to experience the car properly while plans for the next stage were finalized.

From the start we aligned on the owner’s goals use case and budget. Expectations were set early. Parts were ordered through us based on the agreed Stage 2+ setup. Once his schedule allowed the car was booked in. As part of SOP road testing and data logging were done before work began. Real heat. Real load. Driving the car is required and it matters.

Once in the shop we went beyond the initial list. The original thermostat was no longer opening fully. Temperatures were pushing close to 100 °C on light pulls. Access required removal of the J-pipe. Stuck hardware and turbo threads were corrected. Fuel quality issues were addressed. Carbon cleaning and throttle motor service followed. Leak testing also revealed an incorrectly installed hybrid BOV. This was corrected with full recirc to be completed once the missing cap arrives.

Final configuration is Stage 2+ with Grimmspeed intake and EBCS. An AVO ceramic coated high flow catted J-pipe is mated to an AWE exhaust. AVO TGV housings and an EGR delete complete the setup. The car was tuned full time closed loop fueling. This is the same strategy used on the latest FA24 Subarus. A controlled torque strategy was applied to suit the CVT.

Same AFR does not always mean the same result.
Once the fundamentals were addressed power delivery became smooth and repeatable.

Two paths. One direction.

The first two photos show the JDM WRX manual sedan concept. This was about bringing the MT back to Japan after years of CVT only offerings. Not a full STI revival.

The third photo shows where the real work is happening. Subaru running an FA24 turbo 5 door hatch in Super Taikyu ST Q. Focused on chassis rigidity suspension layout and durability. This is foundation building.

If an STI truly returns, it will come from this path.
