Long term project and intricate details for this Mazda RX-7 FD3S. The car came to us in need of some interior glow up.
Let's start with the HVAC housing, as shown here, it was in a pretty dismal state. Coming in from an RHD module, the housing was bondo'd together to match the LHD ports, and some of the parts weren't even screwed on. The attack to this would be to scratch build a housing that is as OEM fit as possible so that we can work with other FD3Ses as well. Creating this housing required a lot of iterations and fitment checks for the screw ports and jigs on the panel to ensure a proper quality fit as seen on the final product.
Moving on to the other butchered parts, the Fan Control K**b was also bondo'd and snapped off during the repair, a remodeled 3d printed OEM finish k**b was subjected into place. Also the Vent Recirc Module from the RHD does not fit the LHD panel, so a scratch made one was made and all that are left original were the module board and the LED window lens.
We also threw in this Bose Soundlink Cubbyhole in place of a traditional DIN head unit setup. Originally we did this on a NA Miata (that I have yet to post)- the owner saw it there and want to have one made as well. Now the car can play tunes from a robust and portable sound system. Talk about weight reduction :P
All of this just in time for that just transpired and still very fresh. Even though the parts are tucked inside the car, we couldn't be more satisfied because we know that these bits are way wayyy better than it was when it started.
Big shoutout to for taking this on with us and Autokraf for the assistance with the car!
