𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘆𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻?
Toyota cars bear a distinctive three oval logo that many people likely recognize. The emblem is made up of three ovals that interlock to symbolize three key principles: the heart of the customer, the heart of the product, and the global expansion of Toyota's technology. Together, the inner ovals form the letter "T" (for Toyota) and represent a steering wheel, while the entire design also cleverly spells out the letters of the company name.
Besides spelling out the company name, the three interlocking ovals also call back to the Toyota company’s history, before it began making cars. Toyota used to be called Toyoda, after the last name of its founder, Koiichiro Toyoda. Back then, the company was known for its automatic looms, which were large machines that wove long rolls of textiles. If you look closely, the three oval logo also resembles a thread passing through the eye of a needle, referencing Toyota’s origins in the textile industry.
Upon shifting to automobile production, Toyoda changed its name to Toyota, which means “good harvest.” The new name takes exactly eight brush strokes in Japanese katakana, and eight is considered a lucky number for wealth and good fortune.
