Unlike the vibrant modified car scene often seen in the Philippines, Hong Kong's car culture is different.

After doing a bit of research I found out that owning a car in Hong Kong comes with a significant financial burden. From taxes and parking fees to expensive fuel and maintenance costs, the overall cost of ownership is considerably high. Adding to this, the city's limited road space and parking availability further discourages car dependence.

These factors, coupled with the presence of a highly developed and efficient public transportation system, influence many residents to prioritize practicality over personal vehicle ownership.

However, this doesn't mean that car enthusiasts are absent in Hong Kong. A passionate community exists, although on a smaller scale compared to other regions. These enthusiasts, despite the challenges, go to great lengths to maintain and enjoy their vehicles.

The strict regulations surrounding car modifications, including those pertaining to emissions, safety, and even aesthetic aspects like loud exhausts and dark tints, pose significant hurdles for enthusiasts.

The risk of fines and even vehicle impoundment discourages extensive modifications, leading to a more subdued and often understated approach to car customization.

Despite these challenges, I know Hong Kong's car culture has its own unique charm waiting to be seen.

Most of the cars we've seen roaming the streets of Hong Kong were recent models or cars that looked new. The only vintage looking / old model cars were the taxis they used.

Most of the taxi models in Hong Kong are Toyota Crown Comforts with the iconic red and white paint job. A smaller percentage of the taxis in Hong Kong are composed of other models such as the Toyota JPN Taxi.

Despite the ever changing city of Hong Kong, the Toyota Crown Comfort Taxi has seen zero to little changes. To some, they may even see it as an iconic symbol of Hong Kong. 🚗

We often see more Toyota Vellfire and Alphards roaming the streets of Hong Kong than our usual Toyota Hiace or Grandias back in the Philippines. 🤯

A cool thing we noticed was a vehicle called the Toyota Noah which was like a mini version of the Gen 6 GL/Super Grandia.
