Mistakes To Avoid When Driving

Mistakes that can damage a vehicle badly and put the owner on the hook for some huge repair bills.

1.Sliding The Vehicle Down A Slope In The Neutral Mode

This is a very common mistake when driving automatic transmission car
This habit won’t let you accelerate the car except for slowing it down. It cuts the oil supply, so the transmission does not get the proper lubrication for smooth operation. It results in significant wear and damage. For that reason, we recommend to discard this habit since the repair costs don’t worth the negligible fuel savings.

2.Revving The Engine Before Switching To The Gear

Revving the engine before switching to the gear is not a good habit for automatic car owners.

It gives the transmission a massive shock that leads to more friction between the internal components, causing damage to engine parts.

3.Shifting Gears When The Car Is Rolling

You cannot save fuel in this way
It makes your transmission components to change direction rapidly, wearing out the gearbox at an astounding pace. Use your brakes instead to stop the vehicle. Some people shift into Park without pushing the brakes, which is also bad for the gearbox.

4.Keeping In Neutral At The Red Light

You will damage the car by doing this
Many people do this to save fuel and protect the driveline from unnecessary wear. In fact, the loss is minimal if you push the brakes by keeping the gearbox in Drive mode. The actual damage takes place when you switch into and out of the neutral mode.

5.Switching Into The Parking Mode Before Completely Stopping The Car

You shouldn’t switch into the parking mode unless your car is completely stopped.
Shifting to the Park mode will cause a locking pin to be inserted into a gear attached to the output shaft of the gearbox. The wheels are also connected to the same shaft. So, when you lock it and keep the vehicle rolling at the same time, there’s a risk of breaking the locking pin.

If you notice another driver attempting to pass you or signaling their intention to pass, yielding the right-of-way by facilitating the pass is always the safest course of action. Taking any steps to stop the driver from passing you is extremely dangerous and could cause a collision. If you speed up to prevent somebody from passing you, an accident could occur because:

•🚨 The passing/overtaking driver may be forced to remain in a lane occupied by oncoming traffic.

•🚨 The passing/overtaking driver may collide with your vehicle as they attempt to merge back into your lane.

•🚨 The passing/overtaking driver may be unable to abort the maneuver as there is no longer enough space behind your vehicle to allow them back in.

⚠🚨As frustrated as you may feel when another driver attempts a risky or unnecessary pass/overtake, remember that blocking that pass will only make the situation more dangerous for every driver on the road – yourself included.

CONDITIONS THAT MAY AFFECT DRIVING

The conditions of driving are constantly changing. Light, weather, road conditions, traffic, and the condition of your vehicle all have to be taken into account when driving. Consider the conditions that might affect your next road trip, and how you can respond to them effectively to enhance your safety.

VEHICLE 🚗
• Tires in good shape and properly inflated?
• Area under the engine free of leaks?
• Oil and other fluid levels adequate?
• Are Lights working properly?
• Brakes functioning?

LIGHT 💡
• Driving at night? Slow down and increase the following distance.
• Driving into the sun? Reduce your speed, and use your sun visor and sunglasses. Make sure your windshield is clean, both inside and out. Take the same precautions when driving in the glare of snow.

WEATHER 🌧
• Rain, snow, or fog causing poor visibility? Slow down and increase your following distance according to the extent of the hazard.
• Roads wet or icy? Add even more following distance. Slow down to avoid hydroplaning on wet roads or skidding on ice. Slow to a crawl if necessary and turn on your flashing lights. Avoid sudden moves or hitting the brakes hard.

• Wind? Steering and acceleration can be difficult in a headwind. Crosswinds can cause you to swerve suddenly. And Tailwinds can boost your speed without your being aware of it. Slow down and take a firm grip on the steering wheel. Focus on the horizon to make smooth steering adjustments.

NATURE OF ROAD
• Narrow or winding road with blind curves and intersections? Slow down and be alert for unexpected hazards such as stalled vehicles, vehicles entering from side roads or driveways, and stopped school buses.
• Road flat, wide, and straight? Watch out for “highway hypnosis.”
• Construction zone? Slow down and prepare to stop. Watch for changes in the road surface. Obey instructions from the road crew.

TRAFFIC
• Heavy city traffic? Scan the road for pedestrians, stopped vehicles, and turn vehicles. Be prepared to stop.
• Fast-moving traffic? Move with the flow of traffic. On the freeway, drive in the right lane to avoid exceeding the speed limit.
• Many trucks and buses? Increase your following distance. Avoid passing if possible. Allow extra leeway when passing.
There’s one other condition we haven’t discussed here: the condition of the driver. To be safe in all driving conditions, never get behind the wheel unless you’re calm, rested, and sober.
