Often I hear from sellers something like: "This is used car so why are you looking at it so closely and picking on it? It won't be perfect but you scare the buyer away". The answer is - I'm not picking on it, I'm just showing buyer all current issues and giving an idea on what will potentially happen to this car in the future. Of course often I find things that seller never mentioned, like mechanical issues or signs of poor maintenance so with my help buyer is getting complete picture and knows what he/she is paying for. And often my inspection creates a solid ground for a price drop too.
Yes, usually it takes few days or even weeks to find a good car but at the end you get a nice one that wouldn't become a black hole for your budget.

Very typical (unfortunately) story:
You are viewing the car before buying it and you like it - body and interior in decent condition for the vehicle's age, everything looks fresh and clean, no errors at the dashboard, it runs smooth and quiet. Almost perfect..
The only little thing is that the front bumper and driver side fender has been painted but seller ensures you that it was minor accident. Nothing serious, just few scratches...
Then you connect scanner to read errors recorded in ECU's memory. SRS (airbag and restraint system control) module shows no errors, so it really looks like the vehicle wasn't seriously crashed.
But there are some other control modules where crash data can be recorded and in this particular case it is BCM. It shows that airbags were deployed hence you were about to buy totaled and repaired car.
Do you want it now, especially for the price of undamaged car?.. Probably not.

How to avoid buying a car that may become a problem - ask professional surveyor to inspect it together with you. We know all those little things about cars that can tell the true story.

Often sellers won't tell you what exactly happened to the car before. To the used car YOU are going to buy...
You may hear - "It's a low mileage lady pre-owned car that have never had any issues" or "there was a minor accident, there's only one door/bumper/fender painted, the rest is OK" or "It's always been serviced on time but the service record/book is lost"... I've seen dozens of cars that seemed to be decent at first but after a close look it turned out that car was severely damaged or it haven't been serviced properly or it's odometer has been tampered with to hide the real mileage etc.etc.
